Viking Ocean Cruise

Recommended Posts

Hi,

We have splashed out and booked a cruise on the Viking Star for next May. It starts off in Athens and takes in a couple of Greek islands before doing the Dalmatian coast and ending up in Venice where we will tag on two extra days.

We just happened to catch the Jane McDonald show which featured a Viking ship and were totally seduced!

Any of you been on one of the Viking ocean ships?

Yes, I agree that the ships look absolutely stunning.  Having looked at their website, I am now okay that I cannot afford to cruise with them.  Why okay?   Very, very few sea days, which is a major reason that I like cruising.  Some 8 day cruises do not have a single sea day and most 15 night itineraries only have one or two.

I'm very glad you posted this afcandrew as I like lots of sea days & as you say a lack of them makes these cruises less appealing. It's still a very stunning ship though.

Isn't it amazing how different we're all are. We are not big cruisers and find sea days, as they were on the P & O Northern Lights cruise a waste of time. The day time entertainment and options for things to do was rubbish and felt they were just chugging along to take up time.

I've tallied up what we spent on excursions, drinks, tips etc and to be honest there isn't a massive difference all told, maybe £600 ish.  With the exemption of evening G&T's etc these are included in the price. We did get a good deal on our deluxe midship cabin though.

We have looked at Vikings prices in the past and thought 'no way' but if you choose to cruise in the better grades of cabin on he likes of P&O when you add up the extras, like us you may be surprised.

Thank you for posting that Davybe. It was good to be pre advised about the storage but we will work around that.

Its great to know you can get a hot breakfast on room service, the Oriana did not serve any hot food what so ever on room service. We will also enjoy being relative teenagers if the average age is 70!

We are really looking forward to it and also the extended stay at the Hilton in Venice.

Well so far we have been very happy with Viking's service. The advice we got from them at the booking stage was excellent. We go next May but  yesterday we had a call from a lady who sorts out the flights and she has got us exactly what we wanted re times, preferred airport and a good deal on business class seats. Within minutes of the call we had the documentation and were able to choose our seats. Let's hope this continues throughout the entire process.
