Pylon 0
Only had one upgrade in 15 years. Was our first ever cruise in 2006 with Carnival on the Glory out of Port Canaveral. We had booked and travelled independently as part of a Florida fly drive, and were unaware that upgrades could happen. On checking in we were taken to one side to wait in a small lounge whilst our cabin numbers were changed from a balcony to a "cabin" on Empress deck? As our first cruise with Carnival we were somewhat in the dark as to what was happening but were really pleased when the cabin turned out to be a suite. One of our best holidays ever and the upgrade worked in getting us hooked with Carnival. Travelled with Carnival again in 2007 & 8 but never been that lucky again. jinky 96
Never had an upgrade on an ocean cruise and we`ve done 7/8 with various companies. On a river cruise with Uniworld we booked a cabin on the lowest deck at a great rate compared to usual prices as we couldn`t justify a higher cost on an expensive cruise up the Danube. When shown to our cabin we ended up with a great upgrade to full electric window view in a larger cabin. hesitate to call it a cabin - pure luxury as seen on Jane McDonald programme. We assumed it was because we were the only ones on the lower deck but found others were still down there. Great surprise and the nicest thing was they didn`t even mention it to earn our praise and thanks. Just took us there as if that was what we had booked. Still the most luxurious and best value cruise we have done. 5* + Edited November 26, 2018 by jinky
sinbad10 757
We have done over 40 cruises and only ever been offered upgrades 3 times the first was our first ever cruise on QE2 in 1997 and the other 2 were on P&O one on Azura maiden voyage when we were offered a paid upgrade which we accepted because it was a bargain price and another on Aurora which we refused ( in the days when you could refuse an upgrade with P&O if offered one). Davybe 529
If your in the Captains club with Celebrity you get an automatic upgrade or a very small discount (With in your Cabin grade) when you book. We found with P&O if you book a Guaranteed cabin (Saver ) and you are in the Club then you tend to get a bit better than the basic grade of cabin you booked. Last Christmas on our cruise one man was at reception ranting about what a "crap cabin he had" and was demanding a change of cabin, the ship was full ,and as the receptionist pointed out she could not turf someone out of their cabin just because he did not like his. The receptionist eventually checked his booking and found out he had picked this cabin? .....Davybe
