We have just had a day in Dubai but took UAE Dirams,  this saved a lot of hassle with taxis's etc.  Seem to think the HOHO was a bit expensive but we used taxi's and that cost me roughly 22 dirams each way (approx. £5) to Dubai Mall. From here you can see the Burj Khalifa and the indoor aquarium which is well worth doing.  If you are going up the Burj then its better to prebook your tickets.  Another place worth is visit is a stroll through the Creek area.   Hope this helps

Definitely use Dirham rather than your Dollars, The HOHO  cn be booked from inside the terminal building as both bus companies have a desk, If using the city sightseeing bus you can sometimes obtain a discount if you have used them before in another country, also a free coffee is available from Costa who have a tie in with them. Taxis from outside the port area tend to be cheaper than thoe picking up from the port.

Just come back from an RCI cruise  covering Khasab, Muscat, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. We booked some private trips in advance which were good - some asked for payment in dollars, some in dirhams whether in Oman or UAE. We didn`t use rials at all in Oman as all seemed to want the other 2 currencies. In Oman , muscat in particular, you had to agree prices in advance with taxi drivers - no meters. In Muscat you got a free shuttle to port gates and then were harangued by taxi drivers all quoting 100 dirham and hour and stating they would do you a specific trip takign ytou where they thought. I`d already listed what I wanted to see which could have been done in 3 hours for 300 dirham but fellow travellers fell for the charm of an extra stop that magically took us into the 4th hour for 400! It was still a bargain given the time he was with us and waited for us at stops and far cheaper than a HOHO bus when there were 4 of us. Worth doubling up with someone on the boat if necessary.

In Abu Dhabi we got a free shuttle from the boat to the WTC Mall They are run next to the HOHO buses by the same company but not too well advertised. It was easy to get out there free for us then pay so much less on metered taxis to where we wanted to go. Much cheaper than a HOHO bus unless you want the commentary. If you do go on the HOHO bus do not get off at the first stop or you`ll be starnded there for an hour or two as it will come in full we were advised. We paid i dirham everywhere but US $accepted.

In Dubai we wanted to fit in so much we bit the bullet and paid the extra charge for the taxi from the port to get ahead of the trips. If you wanted to save money there were a couple of free shuttles to shops where they expect you to at least go in but again as there were 4 of us the port surcharge was nothing when shared really. We got a taxi to the Gold and Spice souks and then took a water taxi over the creek - the best 25p pr 1 dirham pp you will ever spend! We then got a water taxi from near the HSBC bank all the way round by sea to the marina which gave us great views of the Dubai sky scrapers and the sail hotel as we passed and was fantastic going into the harbour. Cannot remember how much but worth it. After looking around the marina we got the metro to the Dubai mall for tower and fountains. Really cheap and easy - just pay at info booth and really good value. Long walk through the mall to the fountains / fish tnk but well signposted. We didn`t have time to get the monorail out to the Palm.

Dubai was easily our favourite. Just don`t miss the mosques in Muscat ad Abu Dhabi - fantastic and all free. I Abu Dhabi I listened to the ship excursion expert who advised that I would be fine getting in the mosque with shorts past my knees and a polo shirt. I was - but then was not able to enter the Emiartaes Palace to look around. As I stood at the entrance with 6 other blokes also stopped for wearing shorts we were even moved on by security and escorted off the entrance paths beyond cctv camera - must have made the place look untidy!

We also were on this cruise and used the HO HO bus in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Muscat. I searched on line and found a great deal that gave us all 3 trips for £160 for the 2 of us. Personally I considered it excellent value. Another enjoyable feature was the Diamond Lounge on board. Free drinks of any type from 5pm to 8.30pm, although they were often still serving at 9pm, every day. If only all other loyalty schemes were this good.

Old World Traveller I would be interested in the site that you used to pre purchase the HOHO bus in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Muscat. I am taking the cruise a week on Sunday and have had mixed reports on the HOHO Bus, some saying to book it is an excursion through RCI, and someone else advised to sort whilst on board! I'm not sure which to do for the best!!

It was the big bus site. Here is the one I used for the joint Abu Dhabi and Dubai and I think I linked Muscat from it but it was some time ago and no longer have the link. Also looks as if the prices have risen since I booked although they still look lower than the ships excursions. https://www.hop-on-hop-off-bus.com/dubai-bus-tours

Found it but I booked before the £pound went down. Still good value at $135 each = £216 for 2 = £36 per person per trip.
