Azura Caribbean- WOW!

Recommended Posts

Me and my partner have just returned from 2 weeks in the Caribbean on the Azura and it was just amazing! I have cruised a little before but it was his 1st time and he loved everything about it! from start to finish the service was fantastic throughout, the food was delicious and couldn't complain about anything.

When we got on-board we went on to find our cabin which was at the back of the ship on Riviera deck, cabin R703 (partially shaded), I was a little sceptical but had nothing to worry about at all. the cabin was very nice- the décor could be a little more updated, the balcony was lovely and it meant when we did have rain showers we could still sit out and enjoy the hot weather and not get wet!

The food throughout the cruise was faultless. we ate most evenings in the main dining room and had a table for 2. they gave us the pager and told us it may be about 30 minutes waiting time, however 5 minutes later and it started beeping. even though it is plated meals in the dining room the food was very tasty and plenty to eat and had a lot of different choices on the menu. One evening we dined in Sindhu, we paid £15pp on the cruise personaliser and It was the best meal I have ever eaten! the service was fantastic and I would definitely eat in there again :) the beach house was also really nice food, big portions and cost £7.50pp.

The ports of call we visited were Barbados, Antigua (rain all day so was a wash out), Amber cove, St Kitts, Tortola, St Lucia, St Maarten, Martinique and Grenada. My boyfriend absolutely loved St Maarten, we visited Maho beach (the airport beach) in the morning and got there around 8.30am and stayed till around midday. we saw a lot of planes coming in and also one take off which left everyone running after their towels and even someone rolling into the sea! Barbados was lovely we went to the boatyard which for $20pp got you a sunbed, a free drink and a 30minute snorkel with the turtles- the sea here was so calm and clear blue- it was a perfect start to our holiday :) Tortola was absolutely beautiful we visited Cane garden bay for about $8pp in a taxi/truck from the port. the scenery is beautiful and is a day to remember. the only port we didn't really enjoy was Martinique (it was more like a French city).

Overall, we both had the most amazing holiday and one we will remember and cant wait to look at booking a future cruise! :)

Hi gina1991,

Thanks for the review.  We have friends who are doing this cruise on Azura on 21 January and, although they are seasoned cruisers, they will be pleased to hear of your positive comments.

So glad you enjoyed the Azura cruise, and I hope you enjoy many more similar experiences.  Standards on so many cruise ships are slipping badly and one needs to read this sort of review because it is helpful in trying to avoid the worst excesses of some cruise lines declining standards.

Enjoyed your review. We were on the Azura in May and enjoyed our holiday.  We dined several times in the Beach House and we as worth the supplement.   We are going to the Caribbean in March but will be on Britannia.

When you went to the Boatyard in Barbados - did you use a taxi and also in St Marteen to Maho beach.  We have never been to the Caribean before. Did you use USA dollars for currency?

Debs2010 you can walk to the boatyard but the easiest way is a taxi it cost us $5 to get there and $20 for the boatyard entrance but for that you do get two chairs and a brolly also a drink and use of all the facilities they play music there all day and every now and then they ring the bell for free sots at the bar, you can purchase food which is very good and when you are ready to return to the ship they provide free transport.

Maho beach is a taxi ride away which you can get just outside the port the beach is very narrow and the larger planes do not start coming in until the afternoon and remember to leave plenty of time to return to the ship as traffic can at times be very bad. If you want an alternative you can get the water taxi from the port which takes you to the town which is next to a great stretch of beach the taxi can be used as many times as you wish as you get a wristband the first time round so you can shop drop it off at the ship then go back and have beach time.

All the islands take $ and with the taxi's agree a price before getting in.
