AnBa 0
We are cruising to the Norwegian Fjords at the end of May 2016,and wish to do the Flam railway. Does anyone know if this can be prebooked on line before we sail or are we best to do the ship''s organised tour? Any advice welcome e please.
Tinkerbell 80
We did this last June and booked the ship's excursion. It is more expensive than doing it yourself but some passengers were unable to get on because of the long queues for buying tickets. People were able to take a later train but the return was too late to catch the ship before it sailed. Don't know if you can pre-book yourself but I'm sure some forum members will have the information.
cruise chef 866
Carriages are usually prebooked for parties but tickets usually re available, enclosed is the link below to look at times & tickets https://www.nsb.no/en/our-destinations/our-regional-railway-lines/the-flam-railway

The Seven Seas 147
Flam Norway railway experience looks amazing and definitely on my to do list when I get to visit Norway! Is this your first time cruising to Norway AnBa?
Shetlander 188
Welcome to the Forum! There was some discussion on this previous thread http://www.bolsovercruiseclub.com/forum/topic/2247-norway-fjord-excursions/.
angel 121
We did this trip in August. We did the ship's organised trip and the train station is right next to where the ship was berthed. It was a bit more expensive than doing it yourself but I would rather pay for peace of mind beause there were some people on board that was disappointed as they choose to do this themselves and the earlier trains were fully booked and the later trains were getting back too late for the ship's departure. Mimosa 116
We did it independantly but looking back we should have doen it with the ship. The ship pre books a lot of the early time slots so by the time you have joined the MASSIVE line to buy your tickets you often find it is only afternoon trains left which may not get you back in time for the ship sailing. We were getting off the ship at 7.30 am knowing this may be the case but the line was already HUGE. We had to tender in so it took a while to get off the ship whereas other ships in port berthed along side so got in the queue first. We got the last 2 tickets on the last train that would get us back to the ship in time! Had we been even the couple behind us we wouldn't have been going due to the time. It is well worth it though. Very beautiful & quite nostalgic.
SWAINESCOTT 0
We did this about 18 months ago - booking with ship (Adventure of the Seas) on line. This also included a driving tour to Voss where we had lunch by the lake, a snack at the top of the valley and return by coach through wonderful scenery after descending round many Hairpin bends . A Magnificent round trip without any hassle or worry Not sure what other cruise lines offer but do all of it, you may only go once. Best wishes
AnBa 0
Many thanks for all of your replies. It seems to be safe we should perhaps book with the ship but we will make our final decision when the excursions are published. Thanks again.

Life0nMars 135
Further to the above I have found that they offer a return ticket for 440NOR not the 340 each way as their normal website. https://www.visitflam.com/en/flamsbana/priser/ This does make the P&O tour more expensive. oldbiddy1 6
WE too are going to the Norw ay at the end of May (P & O Arcadia) The excursions are not yet available to book online but should be available 12 weeks before departure. I know they do have one on the Flam railway and if we do on the train we will book the excursion direct with P & O. We are booked on that cruise and I am waiting to see what excursions P&O will be offering over the course of the cruise. I know they will be expensive though so have been wondering about using the company "Cruise Excursions" as they are cheaper. Have any fellow members here any experience of using Cruise Excursions please?
Falmouthgirl 195
We were on the Oriana we waited until we docked in Flam, my OH went down the dock to the ticket office and purchased 2 tickets much more reasonable than PO, our dining companions did the same but when they got to Flam they picked up bikes and really enjoyed the scenery they also booked in Flam. It was a lovely train ride we went about 11am encountered no problems at all, we particularly enjoyed the waterfall with the sirens singing and darting behind the water.CG
