I think it's down to yourselves what you want, every cruise you will find that some people rave about a cruise line or ship, while on the same cruise other people find so many faults you. Do wonder if they were all on the same cruise.
A holiday is what you make of it, be open minded and enjoy, don't read other people reviews of negative experiences.
Every cruise is a holiday to be enjoyed, in my opinion

Dough-Head got a reaction from Mermaid Mutterings in Do Cruise Lines Listen To Us Or Not ? As we see so many negative comments
We’re often quick to criticise cruise lines for the things they do wrong but what about the things they get right. I hear so many people say “the cruise lines don’t care what we have to say.” Well if that was the case then there would be barely any of the modern-day amenities that many of us now take for granted on board.

    Here’s a few examples:

People complained for years about slow Wi-Fi speeds and now that the technology is available and not at ridiculous rates for the cruise lines, they’re now accommodating passengers wishes, just look at Royal Caribbean on this for example.

So many people wanted looser dress codes, and now they have them! Semi-Formal has been scrapped by P&O on most ships. It’s never been in place on others. Luxury lines are mostly smart casual and Celebrity are the first mainstream cruise line to scrap formal nights for ‘Evening Chic’, a looser approach to black tie.

Here’s another for you: People wanted more inclusivity in their cruise fares. Now more and more lines are adding drinks packages, speciality dining included and NCL have gone fully all-inclusive.

They do listen to us, but not all of us. They go with the majority and judge opinions based on numbers rather than individuals. Is it not time as customers we give them the benefit of the doubt!

We travelled a few years ago with Azamara and it is by far my favourite company to cruise with. We had an outside cabin with clearview on deck 4 and the size was absolutely fine for us and possibly a little larger than what we had with Princess cruises.
I hope you get something booked soon

    Dough-Head reacted in river cruising
    Good morning Dough-Head.

    Yes, I can help you.

I returned on Sunday from a river cruise along the Rhone with Viking on the Viking Hermod...

...but have also sailed on Amalotus. (All river cruises follow a similar dress code pattern)

The standard of dress is 'Smart Casual' and as you will probably find, with the majority of passengers being American, almost anything goes.

To be fair though, the majority do make the effort on the smart casual front and I did notice a number of gentlemen also wearing jackets and they didn't look out of place.

The main thing about river cruising is the activity level on their excursions which are generally quite active - dress accordingly and comfortably...

I'd probably say around 25% of ladies wore a dress or skirt in the evenings though not every evening, the majority preferring smart slacks and loose tops. Passengers did make more effort for the 'Welcome' evening and 'Gala' dinners.

Whatever you choose be rest assured that you will neither look out of place or nor be made to feel it.

Hope that helps. A bit rushed because I have house guests for the weekend and I'm duty chef.

    Bon voyage.

My husband and I have just recently returned from a fantastic week on the Oceana cruising from Genoa to Venice for 7 nights.
It was one of the best cruises we have ever done as the ship, staff, food, itinerary and weather were all wonderful. We arrived at Manchester airport for our flight to Genoa and the check in was very quick and having never done a fly cruise to the Med with P&O we were very impressed with the bonded luggage arrangement and when we arrived at Genoa the ship looked lovely in port.  When we stepped on board the welcome we received from the staff was lovely and they were all smiling and very helpful giving directions to the cabins and the buffet.

We had a balcony cabin this time which was a real treat although it was a little tired. The furniture in the cabin did need replacing and the balcony could have done with a lick of paint but we do not spend all day every day in the cabin and on the balcony so it did not bother us that much and the rest of the ship was very well kept and always clean and tidy.

We met some great people on board and the atmosphere was fantastic especially at the sailaway parties and there were such a mix of age groups on board and everyone seemed to be enjoying the cruise. We were on freedom dining which works very well for us as we do not like to be fixed to times on holiday and we never waited long for a table for just the two of us. Also we tried the Beach house and Café Jardin restaurants and the food was lovely for just a £5 per person supplement but I would recommended pre booking these as we did as some people we spoke to had not pre booked before they went and were disappointed that the restaurants were booked for the entire cruise. The shows are not really our thing but we really enjoyed the musicians on board so often watched them in the evening.

I would highly recommend the shore excursions with P&O as we booked one in Naples which was a full day tour to Sorrento and then Amalfi and it was a great day and excellent value for money as the guide was so knowledgeable of the areas and really good fun and the 3 course meal included in Sorrento was excellent. In Dubrovnik and Venice we just did own our thing and it was so easy as the ship docks so close to the centre of these places.

A wonderful cruise on a lovely ship and cannot wait to do another fly med cruise now!

What a great cruise, itinerary and weather were just perfect. Yes the ship may be a little tired in some areas ie, balcony could have done with a lick of paint and now the horizon grill as become the Beach House this could do with a little refurb but other than that we found the ships public areas lovely and very well looked after. The food and service were excellent in every restaurant and we did eat in them all.
Look forward to booking for next year and hopefully trying the Venice - Genoa itinerary this time
