I certainly agree with the comments by OWT and David above. As the mainstream cruise lines build ever larger ships, I think it would get more difficult for them to have regional departures, especially on a frequent basis. Liverpool could be reasonably well provided for, as long as the new cruise terminal eventually gets built. Places like Newcastle and Rosyth however would only seem suitable for those travelling by car.  Additionally, Rosyth cannot take large ships as access is restricted by the Forth Bridges. Greenock can take fairly large ships but again, there is very little infrastructure there to support changeovers and a relatively small population to provide a decent supply of passengers.
Another relevant issue is that the RCI and Carnival companies have made significant commitments to Southampton. RCI I believe made a large financial contribution when City Cruise Terminal was rebuilt and enlarged. Carnival the same with Ocean Terminal and of course with Carnival in particular, their UK HQ is in Southampton. Increasingly, the cruise lines are looking to cut costs and a way of doing this is to be based in one centre in order to get the best deals.
At the end of the day, I don't see regular, large-ship cruising anywhere other than Southampton in the UK.

Just seen in the news that a family were not allowed to return to the ship after leaving an excursion in Capri. The ship had organised a ferry from Naples which had been specially prepared for the tour group. One family part way into the tour decided to leave and do their own thing. They returned to Naples only to find their luggage on the quayside. MCS said that it would not be fair to the other passenger who had abided by the rules.
I would like to think that the other cruise companies would do the same.

So sorry to hear this Jensen, keep positive, I was diagnosed with terminal cancer with just a few months to live. That was in 2011 to everybody’s surprise ( even my surgeons) I am here and cancer free.  So don’t give up hope 💕

We did a 7 day cruise to Norway in May 2016, booked on the Saturday sailed 3 days later. Cost £399 each for an outside cabin. We through it was a cheap cruise. We had a great time on Marco Polo.

Was reading an article about HAL releasing the four ships. The Cruise Director quoted was Steve cruse! [Wonder if his wife is called Ava?] 😉

I consider myself told off. But I am fed up with people complaining about things that might not happen. Let’s wait and see what the industry does to bring back cruising. Once we know the truth then we can comment and not second guess.

You are lucky enough to be still on this planet. Not so for over 44,000 poor souIs  is that not positive enough for you.
    I look around and
my garden has never look so good,
my neighbours are people you stop and talk with instead of just the odd hello.
the books I always said I would read are now done.
i understand the use of my laptop and iPad more and can Zoom and FaceTime with ease.

A pile of books, a mug of tea & a view of the sea (preferably from a balcony but a window would do) & I'd be perfectly happy.

Countrygirl reacted to Anchors-aweigh in Cruising after the 'virus'
The problem with this media-led world of ours is that we are drip-fed a constant diet of worst-case scenarios. Sure it will be a different one - 'slimmed-down' in the case of the cruising industry - but allow yourself for a moment to think that there could well be an annual vaccine [within a year] that we can have alongside the 'flu vaccine. Then why should we not be given the freedom to roam the seas -and the counties of the world once again.

Log into your account with H &G an send them an email about 6 weeks before your departure date, give them the following
1, ask them to advise P & O of your share holding
    2, your booking ref
    3, date of Travel
    4, name of ship.
After a few days I normally get an email from Bolsover advising me of my extra onboard credit that has been added to my account. ( that is if you book via them) if not then P & O should advise you.

    best of luck.

Sorry if I am telling you something you already know but, if you are going to send an email to the CEO then please start with the words “ I wonder if you can help me as I have exhausted all other means”. Then explain your situation. I have found in the past that this works.  From experience I have had to make contact twice to CEO.s and it has worked.
I was also the Pa to a CEO and if the person was angry then they went to the bottom of the pile. If they had explained their problem in a pleasant way then I was more inclined to help.

We have two cruises booked for 2021, April on Arcadia and again on her in November. I do hope by then we will be able to go. Mind you by next April I would be happy just to go onboard and cruise the oceans for a couple of weeks. Just having somebody else to cook and clean for me would be great.

We are doing very well and are managing to keep busy. We are lucky that we have a garden to sit in plus we can walk in the country without meeting anybody. Living in a small village makes it so much easier. We do feel sorry for those living in the city.
My only gripe is,  what it is about stay at home that a few people do not understand. I would hate the minority to spoil it for the majority.
I like you miss the family we are able to ZOOM occasionally but it is not the same.
Our last holiday was on Ventura arriving back in Southampton on 17th March. Having been away for 5 weeks we have not spent time with our family since the end of January.
Keep safe everyone, here’s looking forward to happier times and our cruise booked next year (we hope)

Sinbad, you are not the only one with future cruises booked via Bolsover, and quite likely to suffer some sort of financial loss as this situation evolves. But screaming about your personal situation without appearing to care for how others are affected  will not endear you to anyone on the forum.

wow aren't you a dog with a bone Sinbad, cant you just look outside your own little bubble a minute and see what is going on, of course not it doesn't then fit your own agenda.  By the way the story in the independent isn't entirely accurate so don't use that as your bible.   The latest information to come from ABTA and the Government is that the package travel regulations are not changing but being extended for a short while, this will mean that tour and cruise operators , where they have cancelled a holiday, can offer a Refund Credit Note initially rather than a refund, this will only be active until 31 July 2020 when if not used the credit note can be exchanged for cash at that point not in two years.  Shouldn't really believe fake news. And I agree with Wshutt above that it is very unfair to blame Bolsover Cruise Club, they don't make up the rules just pass them on.  We need to pull together as a country through this and think of the bigger picture.

Countrygirl got a reaction from Jenjen in Great holiday on Ventura
We are due home on Tuesday 17th March after 35 nights on Ventura. Great holiday the only place we could not go ashore was the Azores as the Portuguese authorities had closed the port.
This was our first time on  Ventura and I think our last, back to Arcadia anytime. Ventura is not designed to carry 3000 adults some of which seem to think they need to arrive at each venue at least 1 hour before a show in order to get a seat. God forbid anybody who gets in their way. I have never seen this before and have to say I do not like it. People are so rude and bad tempered they seem to forget they are on holiday.
Well it looks like we are on the last P & O cruise for a little while as the next one is now cancelled, no where to go as more ports close. I do feel very sorry for those looking forward to their holiday.
