  1. We have failed to find real last minute bargains with P&O for several years. Last two bookings we made on release day and were by far the cheapest throughout the whole period. Booked 2017 for Arcardia and within the couple of months of booking there was a massive price increase!! So glad we booked straightaway , not only getting the cabin we wanted, the dining we wanted etc etc but at the best possible price - thank you Bolsover.....
  2. I have been on Arcadia several times and never had this problem. It has always been exactly the ports stated, with excursions arranged at each port. My last trip to Iceland was brilliant as was every port - just as the itinerary stated!!
  3. On my recent cruise on Arcadia in August, I asked our steward what he would prefer as I was worried he might not get it all. He said he didn't mind and it was entirely up to me. So I then asked if I gave him cash would he be allowed to keep it all or did he have to declare it. He said he could keep it and there was no problem with that. So I cancelled the automatic gratuities and gave cash to the people who helped me directly. Which actually turned out to be far more than usual this cruise as staff were brilliant.
  4. "Love your neighbour as you would love yourself" - I give Christmas gifts to celebrate a birthday not because of anything else. A smile from the recipient is worth thousands of pounds. Be it from the postman, dustman or your cabin steward. Honestly, what price is a little bit of happiness to people who serve us.

  6. How do you find out when P & O ships are going in for refits? Some people seem to be able to find this on the P & O site. I've booked Arcadia for September 2017 and am worried she will not be up to her usual standard!!
  7. We have just returned from a two week cruise to Iceland on Arcardia. Having sailed on her several times, we did see a few tiny cuts - chocoholics afternoon was smaller, cost of photography greater and the cabin tv channels didn't show the lectures after the first few days. Yes £75 charge for a three hour ships "behind the scenes" tour was prohibited for us but it was full anyway. Apart from that it was as brilliant as ever. Food in MDR was good, plenty of choice and yes still has two off menu choices if the main menu didn't suit. Crab and lobster, plenty of beautiful steaks, lovely fish d
  8. We did this cruise in 2014 and it was so wonderful that we have booked it again for 2017. In New York on the first day, we took the Statue of Liberty / Ellis island trip which is a "must do" excursion. Well organised by P&O with plenty of time to see everything. The second day we wandered around New York on our own - very easy to do. Do try to visit Central Station- you will be amazed!! So much to see and everyone is so friendly. Hope you enjoy your visit as much as we did.
  9. This year we have decided to ask our steward what he/she would prefer!! That way hopefully we'll get the truth. Quite honestly we have never given it a thought until we were told that. (We always pay extra anyway. Never had anything but superb service. Especially last year when our wonderful young steward was desperate to get home to his wife who was about to have their first baby. Knew any extra money in that case would be greatly appreciated. He so deserved it!!)
  10. I was actually told that whatever extra they are given must be handed in or they risk losing their job!! So I really don't know the truth now.
  11. I know it's been twelve months since my last cruise but I'm sure I've always paid tips etc by the number of "nights" on board. Today in preparing for my Icelandic cruise I noticed that the gratuities are now charged per day. Now - I don't get on board until 3.30 pm and off again at 10 am on the last day yet I'm being charged 15 full days so I guess the previous passengers and the following passengers are paying for the same days!!!! A big cheeky P & O......... or have I got if all wrong?????
  12. Hi folks. I've just joined . I'm going on the Iceland trip next week aboard Arcadia (our favourite ship), and wondered if anyone had any tips for excursions etc.
  13. What is the point of tipping directly to members of the crew if they have to hand it over? I have always given extra because it was my way of saying thank you to them for their personal service but now don't know what to do. I'm off on a cruise next week too!!
