del82 reacted to Oldworldtraveller in Can I Take a Travel Iron On Board?
In a word del82, NO. Travel irons are looked upon as a fire hazard and will be confiscated if discovered. Many passengers stow them in their luggage but if discovered by security will be confiscated until the end of the voyage as happened to someone I know this year.
Unfortunately Celebrity do not have self service laundries or ironing rooms on their ships so it will be a case of hanging any creased clothes in the bathroom and let steam take out the creases. As an alternative buy a product called 'Crease Release' Crease Release at Amazon - Save on Crease Release. which I personally use in such situations and found it quite good.

we are also hoping to do the fjords this summer and also a little unsure of the weather after doing some research looks as though may is one of the better times although not quite as warm as july usually not as wet so hopefully you should be fine , although like the others have said layers and waterproofs are a good idea. enjoy

Picking up on Davybe's comment on the 'grumpies', my brother took his 2 children (14 and 12) on the Ventura 28 night Caribbean cruise this January. They were the only children on board, which he knew would be the case as its in school time (his children are home schooled) however he said his kids were better mannered than a lot of the passengers onboard. He says he much prefers to sail in the school holidays as the children are better behaved than some of the older passengers. There was a lot of pushing/shoving and rudeness to the crew and my brother felt the need to step in a few times. I think teenagers/young people get a lot of stick in regards to respect but I think it is the elders which lack respect nowadays.

haha, laughing to myself I have just thought of another one- On my way back from Manchester airport to Sheffield.
As we all know- phone signals on trains is a rare occurrence,  so imagine my horror when I found myself locked un the toilet unable to contact my friend I was travelling with.
I pushed and pull and even threw my body into this door with no avail.
I was panicking about missing my stop so I pulled the emergency cord as I suppose anyone would in that situation.
how embarrassing for me when the train came to a halt and a member of staff SLID the door open.
£80.00 lighter from the fine and full of shame I shall never forget to try to slide as well as push and pull.
    Horrendous.

So I am due to go on holiday in few days and myself and colleagues have been talking about our holiday disasters- I am going to share mine with fellow forum followers- don't be shy, tell us your tale

    October 2009 HudhoranFushi in the Maldives;
My Grandma, mother, sister and I went as a dying wish of my beloved granddad.
we had been on the island about 3 days and had arranged with the hotel staff to have the pier to ourselves for half an hour or so that evening to scatter my Grandfathers ashes.
Candles were lit and the setting beautiful ( as you can imagine)
My mum had written a beautiful poem which we read together - it was a beautiful moment in memory of my grandfather.
That beautiful moment was soon tarred as my mum started to scatter his ashes into the ocean, out of no where a gush of wind took place and threw the majority of the ashes into my mums face and mouth.
Naturally, at the time it wasn't all that amusing but all these years later we are able to have one of the biggest laughs at the most saddest/funniest moment I have ever encountered!!!

If you are considering using CPS then take a look at Parking4cruises website they are virtually exactly the same as CPS but generally a lot cheaper. You meet them in short stay car park opp terminal and they photograph your car which is good for you and them and they offer excellent service and you pick your car at the short stay opp terminal on your return.

We use CPS as it makes life so easy. You can rent drive space in Southampton and the owners arrange a taxi to take you to the cruise terminal and also be there when you get back. A friend of mine does this but I think it is a lot of trouble. I just class the CZpS charge as part of the holiday. If you have OBS you may be able to use this to cover the car park cost.

We use Cruise Parking, very well located for access from motorway, so the transfer bus deals with most of the local traffic issues.
Well managed, and costs around £10 per day.

I have used 2 of the main ones, ABPort parking and Cruise and Passenger services. ABPort you park your car and then its a 3 min walk to the terminal. Cruise and Passenger services meet you at the terminal and take your car away to park it. Both are very easy

Well if Land Ahoy actually did some proper research rather than look at deviant sites then maybe he would have realised that John Lewis know that this penguin breed is on the brink of extinction. The parent penguins leave their young to forage for food. This then ends with the chicks being left to fend for themselves and ultimately to their death! The whole message is about giving and caring and maybe, just maybe this is an intentional bird choice as it is nearly extinct.
Through one advert it has raised this issue to the global community. This has in turn started to raise money/adoption requests to get the abandoned chicks the help they need before they are gone forever!

"John Lewis has partnered with the wildlife charity WWF to help to protect the Antarctic habitat of Adélie penguins, the species on which Monty and his new companion, Mabel, are based. “All profits from the CD sales of our Christmas advert single, Real Love, by Tom Odell, go to WWF’s Adopt a Penguin programme. Since the campaign launched on 6 November more than 1,500 adoptions have been [requested], a significant increase from this time last year".
