As Capt Kidd and OWT say no problem taking a bottle of your favourite tipple on board, all I would say is don't bother taking it with you you will be able to buy all the major brands in port and at less than you will pay in UK duty free.

Enjoy your first cruise .. it will be the first of many

Am I missing something here ?? I have read this as a continuation to the 'spoof' Jaczs presented in one of the competitions and certainly don't recall any nastiness, I would hope if there was any it would be reported and dealt with by Admin.

The nice thing about this forum is it is friendly without being cliquey and long may that continue, there will of course always be differences of opinion but as 'adults' we are more than capable of putting our point across without resorting to any form of abuse.

That's probably true but is it cruising this new generation like? Perhaps it's more a cheap alternative to an hotel in Benidorm, or a more accessible theme park such as Disneyworld. Thankfully we won't be cruising in 20 years either

I find Bolsovers search facility very good, I think the problem you might be experiencing is because we are still in 2016 and I think you have to put the year in from the drop down box first otherwise it will show everything for a particular cruise line ( hope that makes sense ) as a test I've just done a search of a particular cruise but extended the return date by 4 weeks so it goes into 2017, I entered a particular cruiseline but 'any ship' and the area and it brought up only what I wanted to know.

Edit: And explained much clearer by Admin and OWT.

    Good morning Finnbobsdad,
Please make sure that you select both a 'From' and 'To' date to reduce your search results.
For example, here I am looking for cruises between 1 February 2017 and 31 March 2017. I have selected those dates in the search form's 'From' and 'To' field.

The search results will then show all of the cruises available between those dates.

Should you want to narrow your search results, you can do this by updating the 'Cruise Line' or 'Destination' field, for example.

We hope that helps. Should you require any more assistance please let us know.

    Good morning Finnbobsdad,
Welcome to the forum and what a pity your first post is one of annoyance. If you go to the home page of Bolsover you will see on the top left side there is a box that you fill in with your requirements including dates. Select this feature and I am sure you will find what you are looking for. I have just tried it for the Med in February 2017 and 31 cruises showed, none for 2016 so could I suggest that perhaps you inserted the wrong parameters. Have another try, I am sure you will find it worthwhile and end up like many of us, happy with the Bolsover service.

I totally agree with you, CK II but sadly some seem to think it relevant?

Yet when would/do any of us ask or think to question a waiter/waitress after a pub meal back at home, whether they are declaring their tip to tax or not? Precious few, if anyone, I would imagine?.
So why please, and not at all personally said, the never ending debate on cruise ship crew, their meagre money, what to tip or not tip at all, all the time?

Its always a personal choice, theirs to work, and ours to tip or not, without any justification, and I feel it should ultimately remain that way.
    That said, I hate skin-flints!

It was a spoof review of Ventura (19,055 views) by Major Pratt of Chipping Sodbury. He then did another about Celebrity (36,127 views) using the titles, Baron and Contessa. He wrote 5 spoof reviews under the name of Major Pratt before being finally laid to rest by his nephew Jasper Uber-Pratt. The reviews attracted thousands of views and brought a smile to the lips of many.

As my inbox has been inundated with requests for my return, due to I believe my ability to give useful and informative advice (I really should be a travel rep) and as I am not one for letting people down one has decided to share my travels with you once again. So where to start this time? I suppose the beginning is a good enough place and that would have to be at Mrs Brock-worthy's coffee morning.

We have a monthly coffee morning in our exclusive cul-de-sac I say exclusive as we live on a private road which discourages outsiders in their Ford Fiesta's using it as parking for their school runs. We each take it in turns to host the monthly coffee morning where we can discuss all sorts of important issues and check out who has bought what.

Well Mrs Brock-worthy decided this was the time to drop into the conversation that she had booked another cruise, I was at this point going to say we were thinking about another but then she dropped the bomb-shell by bringing out a rather lovely hamper of goodies which had been delivered just that morning from the Travel agent she uses!!!

Well I was absolutely flabbergasted in all the years I have cruised never NEVER have I had such a treat delivered if I were a cat I would have been spitting feathers, not that I would allow anyone to know that. Mrs Brock-worthy took great delight at unpacking the treats and passing them around to the Oooooohs and Ahhhhhh's of the cup and saucer ladies (we do insist on standards)

First came the champagne and a bottle of New Zealand Red closely followed by a box of hand made chocolates & truffles and wonderful biscuits a rather nice box of loose tea and coffee beans made up this hamper along with a note saying "To get you in the mood for your next cruise"

Well I quickly took note of the Travel agents name and decided when I went home to check them out. I did notice on my way out of Mrs Brock-worthy's house her downstairs toilet door was open and the Spanish toilet roll holder I had brought from my last cruise was not visible, I was relieved when she told me she had moved it to the main upstairs bathroom where she could appreciate it more.

Once home I quickly Googled the Travel Company Mrs Brock-worthy had used "Pushover" didn't sound much but with the thought of a hamper in my mind I quickly rang the number.

"Hello Pushovers" came the voice down the line "you are speaking to Marigold as in the flower how may I help you?"   Well I didn't think she meant as in a rubber glove or indeed as in Plain, strong or Self raising. I am looking for a cruise I informed her but not really sure what I want as we have done many cruises and I am looking for something different.

Marigold asked a series of questions like cabin grades and how much I wanted to spend and what I liked to do, and any preferences I had and said she would have a look at what was available and would get back to me with some suitable cruises. I was not going to hold my breath she never even mentioned a hamper or the fact I was giving her a very healthy budget to work with.

So I put down the phone and decided to give it a day to see what Pushovers or more importantly Marigold would come up with and those chocolates and Champagne did look rather nice and I was expecting mine to be a bigger hamper as I book balcony cabins not inside like Mrs Brock-worthy

Nor me Tally, everything other than clothes I pack about 4 weeks in advance and clothes are packed a couple of days before we leave but all my dresses / evening wear/suits etc I pack on hangers in covers and these I pack the morning we are leaving as it literally takes 5 minutes.

Try having a cruise wardrobe - you just take the clothes out and pack them. Get home, wash them, andvrehang them. Simple

Isn t this rather cutting off your nose to spite your face? Of course you are entitled to your opinion, but you are losing the opportunity to visit many interesting places and use excellent cruise lines. Obviously there are sometimes problems, but there are also good experiences. Miami is not my favourite, either the airport or cruise port, but if the cruise I wanted to take left from there I would grit my teeth and go there. Remember how many Americans have suffered from terrorist action and you can understand why they are stringent.
BTW in many visits to US (probably more than fifty over the years) I have never been asked if I was a terrorist.

It also limits which Caribbean islands you visit.

I have to say the only rude immigration staff I have come across is in Miami and I would now avoid that port at all costs, at the end of the day they have a job to do and we may not like their paranoia but it's their country .. their rules

I believe it depends if you go out of American waters as very often happens in the Caribbean if there is a mix of US Virgin Islands and British Virgin Islands so you might have cleared immigration in the US then visited Barbados ( as an example BVI ) then on to St Thomas so you are back in American waters and would be required to clear immigration again.

I sailed on Victoria in the early 90's before it was renamed when it was called Sea Princess, I don't actually remember much about the ship other than it was our first P&O cruise and it ticked all the boxes so much so that for the next 17/18 years we cruised almost exclusively with P&O .. funnily enough my last cruise with P&O was in 2010 just like Land Ahoy and the reason because imo the standards had dropped so much they were no longer the great cruise line they once were, this is of course only my opinion and what other people think is entirely up to them but all I will say is 'there is better out there'

Of course that is not what this thread is about and even though it would take a lot to entice me back to P&O I would never knock the things that I do think they have got right .. the Medina restaurant on Aurora, I love the restaurant on Arcadia which is on two levels although sadly that is the only good thing I could say about Arcadia .. not the ship for me !! the Cricketers on Oriana and of course the Crows Nest .. my preference again being on Oriana, Andersons I also love for both pre and after dinner drinks.

Hi  Asking me to name a "favourite" P&O venue dining  is akin to asking me who was the best Adolf Hitler or Genghis Khan.  The line does not warrant such a accolade it's deteriorated so much in the last few years that I haven't sailed with them for many years.  It would be much better to ask which is your favourite dining area on a cruise line which is capable of cooking decent food!

We get priority boarding with Cunard so I can't answer your question from personal experience however some friends who were on our last cruise had a boarding time of 90 minutes later than us, due to a last minute change of plan they arrived at the terminal much earlier than they expected to, we were very surprised when five minutes after boarding there was a tap on our door and it was our friends ... they were on board literally within 15 minutes of arrival.

What has made me smile on this thread is the presumption (by some) that when we old folks pop off this mortal coil then there will be no old folks cruising.  So I presume all the young trendy new cruisers will all remain young and trendy? No of course not, they ‘shock horror’ will one day be old. They may then regret the fact that the only ships being built are appealing mostly to the young and trendy who want lots of exciting things to do. They may eventually yearn for a ship without loads of energetic children. At the moment we have the choice of small, medium or large and even adult only ships, but will they have that choice in 20/30 years time. Perhaps they might then be a little sorry that they embraced the larger ships so willingly. Yes, each to their own now but what of the future?

I’m another fan of the Aurora the best ship in the P&O fleet in my opinion.

Of course every generation will have their preferences but that generation eventually move on a generation and their preferences move on too .. heaven forbid I look at myself now and think OMG I'm turning into my mother  well that's probably a slight exaggeration but you get my drift,

The huge ships I believe provide a market for a certain age group and that age group will always be there, they and their preferences will change over the years ( we don't think at the time they will but trust me they do ) then what ?? the likes of Aurora/Oriana/Oceana will be long gone and if only large ships are being built will it be 'tough' take it or leave it  I don't think any cruise line would be so shortsighted not to realise those with the 'disposable income' are us 'oldies' and one day the younger generation will be asking for the same as us, just my opinion of course !!
