  1. I never post anything on forums such as this with the intentions of upsetting others. However, I am a fairly straight talker (euphemisms are not my strong point) so will sooner or later offend those with delicate sensitivities. No matter how mild the language we use there will always be someone out there who will find insult where non was intended. I will continue to take care with my choice of language, but if anyone truly finds what I write offensive then I will apologise unreservedly
  2. The short answer is 'no'. Being a member of a well-known fitness chain I have access to indoor and outdoor pools, spa, steam room and sauna, all within five minutes walking distance from my home. To be honest, I can't wait to get away on a cruise and get stuck into all those things that are bad for me. The fees I pay work out at about £3.50 per visit so consequently I find the very idea of paying such inflated sums while I'm on my cruise quite unappealing. Actually, as I sit here, about to tap 'post' I'm left wondering how many bottles of wine I could have in my cabin for $120!
  3. We had the Strathallan Suite on Britannia a while back and experienced no vibration at all. Maybe we were just lucky with the sea conditions. As for the Sindhu restaurant, sorry to disagree, we were disappointed - a poor choice for an evening meal. However, the Epicurean was indeed a wonderful place to eat and I congratulate P&O for such a lovely restaurant.
  4. I'm amazed that this subject has led to so much correspondence. However, as a retired fire officer I'm now beginning to feel like I too should be offered a discount. Problem here is that whilst I could claim that I and my colleagues have likewise put our lives on the line in the quest for public safety, where do we draw a line? On the one hand I ask myself why should we (members of the emergency services) expect a discount, whilst acknowledging that if you don't ask you don't get. Why, for instance, was my wife entitled to a discount at a well known high street restaurant chain when she worked
  5. Hi Millie. Welcome to the forum. There are plenty of topics to choose from here, but if you can't find one that suits then you can always start your own. You'll just need to search for the appropriate 'home' for it.

I don't have the least problem with passengers using lifts as playthings if that what floats their boat (no pun intended), but with regard to Britannia specifically, we did find that those people having mobility problems came off decidedly worse at certain times. Lifeboat drill; returning from a shore excursion; disembarking at the end of the cruise, et al. That's it. I think the subject of the lifts has been covered ad nauseam. I plan to say no more on the subject.
  7. RayO This booking just turned into a complete disaster. When I mentioned to my son that I'd made the reservation he asked me: "Have you decided not to come to my wedding then, Dad?" You can imagine my dismay. Anyway, the long and the short of it all is that I went cap in hand to Bolsover and they've sorted it out for me. We've cancelled this cruise altogether and re-booked with a different date on the Arcadia. Oh what a silly boy I am!
  8. Help needed, please. Can someone put my mind at rest regarding the provision of a balcony with this suite. We've just booked a cruise and the deck plan seems to suggest that the balcony is tiny?
  9. There's no doubt in my mind that Britannia is a great ship. My wife and I enjoyed the recent Norway cruise immensely, and I tried to make my own response (above) as positive as I could. But having experienced other P&O ships I have to say that this recent addition to the fleet is not all perfection. Having said that, there's nothing about Britannia that we considered sufficiently negative to prevent us from cruising on her again.

  11. My wife and I sailed on her about a month ago. Our suite was really nice, the crew were helpful and pleasant, but we felt the ship was too big. There was also the problem with the lifts, but that subject has been dealt with elsewhere in this forum.

  13. I'm going to appear a little contrary here but have to say that Silver Service has never contributed much to my dining experience, but ... I'm sorry to see it go. I'm a bit of a dinosaur when it come to tradition. I don't take well to change, particularly change that results in a poorer or less attractive service. There are a host of restaurants on offer on most cruise ships and I believe at least one per ship could offer Silver Service. Then we could take it or leave it. So, in answer to your question, no I don't think it's for the better.
