What a disappointment for you.  It would seem that industrial action is rife right now!!

Egypt is dirty and having armed guards is somewhat unnerving, but the pyramids are well worth seeing although I was surprised how close they are to the city.  The market vendors there are pushy but our guide was very helpful in avoiding them.  I was amused that a camel riding policeman helped you.  The only contact we had with police was when I took a photo of the camel riding officer and he came over and asked for money.  I was well aware that the locals with decorated camels expect money for photos, so we avoided them, but was astounded that a policeman would expect to be paid.  We ignored him and eventually he went away.
We used a private tour but I can't find any record of the company.  We were a group of eight and someone else arranged it.

It should go live on 17th May, that’s why it is not showing your Covid jabs at the moment ( but don’t hold your breath)

Highlights of the Day, do you think it could go something like this on no port cruises,
"Good morning ladies and gentlemen, this is your cruise director speaking. Just before midday I would ask you to line the starboard side of the ship to cheer the "MV Going No Where" as she passes us going in the opposite direction. This will be repeated at 1500hrs as the "MV Haven't Been Anywhere" passes. The entertainment team will lead the cheering."

So sorry to hear this Jenjen. There is nothing anyone can say to make things any easier or better but please know you have my deepest condolences.
We had been cruising on & off for 17 years when my partner died in 2012. Strangely enough, it would have been his 66th birthday today. Tony died in early June that year and I actually went on a cruise in October that year. It felt quite soon but was also partly driven by wanting to get his ashes scattered at sea. Various other options to do it hadn't worked out and I knew it was possible to do it from a cruise ship. P&O were fabulous in helping me arrange that and Captain Neil Turnbull was marvellous on the day.
It was a tough cruise but I met some wonderful people on it and a little bizarrely, shared a dining table with 3 ladies, all of who were widows. Sail away from Southampton was really tough but luckily, I have friends who live close to Southampton and kindly they had driven to Mayflower Park and were waving and flashing their car headlights as Aurora passed by. That really helped. Since then, I have done a number of solo cruises as well as some with two (separate) friends and I enjoy equally both those with friends and those I do solo. I've also taken a few solo short breaks at Warner Hotels and enjoy those too but cruising is a great way to travel after losing the love of your life - it is safe and supportive. I highly recommend it but only you will know when it is the right time for you to try it.
I have one amusing anecdote from my first solo cruise. Other friends had kindly bought me a gift package that included a half bottle of Champagne. After the short ceremony to cast Tony's ashes, I decided to have the bubbly to drink him a silent toast. I took it up to the Prom deck and set myself up by the ship's rail. We both had enjoyed a fair bit of bubbly over the years, so I was quite practiced opening bottles of the stuff. I took the metal cage off and for some reason, didn't put my hand over the top. As I leant over to pick up my glass, the cork shot out, hitting me fair & square on the upper lip! I must admit that at such a sad time, it made me chuckle and whilst I don't think I believe in an afterlife, I did kind of think it was Tony's way of saying "that'll teach you to be down there drinking Champagne without me".
I am sure when the time is right you will be able to start enjoying cruises again. Thinking of you at this difficult time.
    Take care,
    Andrew

Good idea, I think you should be issued a certificate on your second vaccine to prove you have had the vaccine, this is what happened years ago on receipt of the likes of smallpox, yellow fever jabs etc.
it could easily be signed off each year. I think that it might end up like the flu jab needing to be updated at least annually. Let’s face it with all the bugs you can catch on ships to insist on a vaccine jab, even if you have to pay for it which the flu jab only costs around a tenner, it’s worth it.

Received an email from HAL in the early hours of this morning giving us an update on our planned cruise of Japan and Russia, scheduled for April 2021.  Bear in mind that this trip was a already a re-booking of our cancelled April 2020 cruise.
Referring to the recently released Framework for Conditional Sailing from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, this is what they had to tell us:-
"As we continue to prepare and develop our plans, we have made the decision to extend our pause in cruise operations for all departures through March 31, 2021, cruises of eight days or longer that call at a U.S. port through November 1, 2021, and select longer cruise itineraries departing this spring. As a result, your upcoming voyage has been affected.
You will be automatically re-booked on the below voyage with your cruise fare and promotions protected, in the same (or equivalent) stateroom category. As a gesture of our appreciation, an Onboard Credit (OBC) will be applied to your new booking of USD $150 per person (up to USD $300 per stateroom).
Noordam (Voyage N123), Monday, April 11, 2022, 14-day Japan and Russia."

Can't say as I'm surprised and at least we've been given plenty of notice.  We've been advised that the re-booking confirmation will be sent to us by 8 December 2020 and, at that point, we can raise any queries or "consider an alternate sailing" either via our Agent or direct with their Southampton office.
In the current climate, I thought members might find it helpful to know the thinking from across the pond.

We are hoping restrictions will start to be reduced during 2021. We still have 2 cruises booked for next year with booking and preregistrations for 2 cruises in 2022. We just do not want to see life to pass us by waiting for so called normality to return.

Back in February, HAL cancelled our Japan and Russia cruise and promptly refunded all monies payed.
With the help of both Bolsover (through whom the cruise was booked) and Trailfinders (flights and pre-cruise land tour package), we re-scheduled the trip for April 2021.  Bolsover have just informed me that the date for the cruise balance payment has been deferred by one month to early February 2021.  I guess by then HAL will be making a decision as to whether or not the cruise can go ahead, thus avoiding taking final payments which would need to be refunded.
If it does go ahead, we currently intend to be on it.  Not sure for how many more years we will remain fit enough to make such a trip.  Tempus fugit!!

Hope you did not mind me asking, but it's just there's been so many differing views about the restrictions onboard with an equal divide as to whether people will or will not cruise with them in place.
I personally have decided not to cruise with onboard restrictions in place, it'll be interesting what experiences people do have when cruising finally opens up again.

I’d just about got used to wearing a mask  for a short time in the shops but now they’re closing again. I still click & collect groceries as I can’t get used to people in all directions in the aisles chatting & blocking the way. It’s a shame for the smaller shops as they organised things well & will now lose a lot of Christmas trade - our local shopping centre has seen a lot of shops close for good already. I’m still hopeful for our 2 cruises next year but who knows. Keep well everyone.
