  1. I think that Mike, Matt & Jill will be the final three.
  2. Welcome aboard Portsmouth. I look forward to reading your posts. It’s been quite quiet on the forum lately.
  3. Painful Oldworldtraveller. I broke my wrist last year & it still aches at times. Still 3 cruises to look forward to next year- Aurora to Norway in March, Arcadia to the Baltic in June & Iona to Spain & Portugal in December.
  4. A very good question. I’ve been looking on the forum a couple of times a week & there’s been hardly any activity since cruising got more or less back to normal. We’ve done 3 cruises this year & have found that things are changing every time - March on Iona masks all the time, July on Iona no masks, August on Aurora masks the last few days. Staffing levels could be better so that all bars & restaurants are open but otherwise lovely cruise experiences. I hope you’re happily cruising again Oldworldtraveller & I hope more people come back to the forum soon.
  5. Welcome aboard PAUL G. We’ve never cruised at Christmas or New Year so can’t offer any advice. We have cruised to the Canaries in early December & it was lovely to see all the decorations both on board the ship & in the various ports - especially Madeira.
  6. We did a trip from Port Said to Giza, the Sphinx & Cairo museum quite a few years ago. Just as Countrygirl said the convoy of coaches had armed guards & we even had an empty coach with us in case 1 broke down! It was supposed to be for our safety but it just made me feel uneasy. The only good bit was at the Pyramids where we were pestered to buy cheap tat & one man kept shoving bits into my hands. An mounted policeman (on a camel) came over & the man ran off leaving me with lucky stones etc.
  7. I agree Remoh. It will be a nightmare to try to find somewhere to do one in Southampton if hundreds of us try to do one the same day. I know you can pre order them, do them on the day & use your phone to send a picture of the result but some of us either have older phones that can’t do it ( hubby) or haven’t got a clue how to do it (me). If they just said clearly that you could do a test anytime the previous day before embarkation we could find somewhere close to home & possibly save a wasted journey if positive.
  8. We’ve got home today from a Madeira, Canaries & Portugal cruise on Iona. We didn’t have to to do a plf for Madeira or the Canaries but we did have to do one for Lisbon. It’s done a few days before arrival & instructions & help are given on board. We managed to do it on my phone but no one asked to see it either on board or on shore during the two days that we were there.
  9. Hello Jenjen. We’re taking our grandson (& his parents) on their first cruise next year to Norway. Hopefully by then most things will be back to how they used to be. I would like them to experience some of the little touches that make a cruise a bit special such as chocolate on the bed at night although I fear that now some things like that have gone they will be quietly dropped forever.
  10. We like Fred. A good positive review so another ship to consider in the future.
  11. I hope you mean 2023 because we’ve got one booked on Aurora in September 2022 & there are others on sale for later that year. We’re hoping there will be some on Aurora in June 2023 that are about 2-3 weeks long to celebrate our golden wedding.🛳😎
  12. Thank you afcandrew. Needed manipulation to change the angle of the wrist (thank goodness for entinox) & then replastering. Next appointment should be in 4 weeks.
  13. Thanks oldworldtraveller. Back to hospital on Wednesday.
  14. We received the email & accepted the invitation. Now we have to wait for a link on Sunday to watch the ceremony. We’ll have a look as it’s the nearest we’ll get to a live launch.
  15. Yes thank you. Just a bit achy now.
  16. Had 2nd jab on Wednesday & felt giddy with relief. Also felt giddy on Friday & fell & broke 2 bones in my right wrist. never broken a bone before - hurts doesn’t it? 😀😢😂
  17. I’m so sorry to hear this Jenjen. What an awful time for you & your family. There seem to be a lot of positive posts from people who cruise alone so when you feel ready ( & we’re allowed to go) I hope you can take the brave step to try one & have a lovely time.🌈🛳

    P & O Arvia

I can’t say that I like the name of the new ship. In fact at first glance I read it as Arriva & then I put my specs on!😀

    COVID vaccination

Saga are now insisting that passengers have the vaccination before sailing. Personally I think this is a good move but what do others think? Will this just be for this year or should it be reviewed annually?
  20. Well said Countrygirl. A safe & happy Christmas to you too & to everyone on the forum & at Bolsover.🎄
  21. I couldn’t get on the forum for a few days either. It’s now exactly 1 year since we were on a ship so hopefully we’ll soon be jabbed & back on board in the spring.
  22. Yes we would. We usually keep to ourselves a lot anyway having a table for 2 for dinner then going to the theatre or for a drink. Wearing a mask between venues wouldn’t be too bad & we’d get used to it quite quickly I hope. On a more hopeful note we’ve just sorted out a cruise for August 2022 with Bolsover which they will confirm next week so by then I hope all this will be just a bad memory.
  23. I’d just about got used to wearing a mask for a short time in the shops but now they’re closing again. I still click & collect groceries as I can’t get used to people in all directions in the aisles chatting & blocking the way. It’s a shame for the smaller shops as they organised things well & will now lose a lot of Christmas trade - our local shopping centre has seen a lot of shops close for good already. I’m still hopeful for our 2 cruises next year but who knows. Keep well everyone.
  24. I reported some of the posts yesterday but there were so many that I thought that would be enough for some action but they seem to still be there.
