Great review of Harmony of the Seas! Glad to hear that you had a great time on board and I hope that you and your daughter also have a great time when you board tomorrow - will be great to hear what you daughter thought of the ship too  . I've seen quite a few videos of people going down the Ultimate Abyss and it looks fab. Those burgers look ace and you can see from the photos you've uploaded how great the artwork on board is.

Great review Popsicle, and really nice to see a completely honest reflection of a ship as well, noting several things you'd like to see improved. Clearly it impressed you and I'd love to give the ship a try one day. I agree with you, it is an engineering marvel to be celebrated. Too often these creations are cast aside as eyesores when really they are quite incredible. It's been stated many times on this forum alone but obviously the ship will not be for everyone, nevertheless, many people will love it and I'll echo Cast Ashore in wishing you a lovely time on board with your daughter.

Popsicle got a reaction from Sea Cruiser in Harmony Of The Sea's May 2016
Last week I was privileged to be invited to join the Harmony Of the Sea's for her 2 night 'shakedown' cruise. This is essentially a practice run for the ship & staff before the general public embark, and is generally agents, media and industry big-wigs.

Embarkation was seamless, no queuing at any check in desks, just walked into the terminal greeted by a lady with an i-pad, 5 minutes checking details and we were on straight away. So impressive and efficient, there are some lessons to be learned by other lines here.

First impressions of the ship - WOW. The decor is stunning, the artwork is incredible. You can tell that a huge amount of thought has gone into every little detail, and there are surprises around every corner.

The amenities onboard are not to be sniffed at either. Wandering up to the pool decks I was so impressed by the facilities. There is gorgeous little bar serving beef sliders, mini pizza's, dumplings and a 'help yourself' ice cream machine with toppings and sauce!
There is stacks to do on the outdoor decks weather permitting! We threw ourselves down ' The Abyss' - a dry slide which spans 10 decks and a 100ft drop, this takes you a meagre 9 seconds to descend - happily there is a tequila bar at the bottom so you can go and steady those nerves once more.

There are a plethora of dining venues onboard - too many to list them all, but again the decor and appointment of each venue is breathtaking. No expense has been spared in making each restaurant its own little paradise. You have Jamie's Italian, the immense Chops Grille and the simply stunning Wonderland to name just a few. Along with Izumi, a Japanese sushi restaurant, Sorrento's for pizza, and the very chic 150 Central Park you are spoiled for choice. And that's without even mentioning the main dining rooms of which there are 3, all equally gorgeous.

The service onboard was adequate, we had to bear in mind this was their first service as a ship staff but they did extremely well and we had no issues. The food was delicious and beautifully presented and there was literally something for everyone. Breakfast and lunch in the Windjammer was great. Plenty of seating, stacks of options and some lovely 'different' dishes that you wouldn't normally expect in a self service. The addition of fruit juice machines was a lovely touch.

The cabins are delightful, spacious and once again decor beautiful. My only criticism was no tea making facilities in the room - I do like a brew first thing! Other than that absolutely no complaints, and particularly loved the bathroom - lots of room and a fab shower!
All in all I loved her. She isn't everyone's cup of tea, and even I am not sure if I would want to take a longer holiday on her, but the innovations like the Bionic Bar, the art, the decor and just the sheer engineering marvel that she is makes her a ship to be celebrated.
I can't wait to see what they come up with next!

I am back on her tomorrow for another 3 nights with my 11 year old daughter so will see another perspective of the ship, but for now here are some photo's of the beautiful Harmony

I love Paris, and strolling down the Champs-Élysées without the bustle of traffic would be lovely!

I think they need to sort out the roundabout that surrounds the Arc de Triomphe first though - you take your life in your hands there!!

    Hi Admin

Thank you for your reply, I have now pre-registered with Bolsover after speaking to a delightful lady called Poppy who was wonderful and so very helpful. First time going through Bolsover as I usually go direct with P&O but I feel it will not be my last.

Thank you for such great service

We were very lucky. The skies were crystal clear and we did have about an hour and a half wait for them to show up but when they did it was amazing. It started off with the lights appearing here and there but after a while you didn't know where to look, it was the lights version of a firework display! All you could hear was people going Ooooooh, wow, ahhhhhhhhh!
The guide told us folk tales from various inhabitants of that part of the world and it's easy to believe how they thought they were spirits. To see huge shards of light swirling and flickering makes you stand in awesome wonder.
If the lights are on your list you've got to give it a try.

Sorry Wheels 36, but I cannot agree on this being a north/south issue. Where does the north end and the south begin and visa versa? Correct, it depends where you live. If it is Glasgow then south begins at about Manchester, halfway between Glasgow and Southampton.
The more I read, the more I think this is about an 'I've always arrived early and will continue to do so despite what P&O say' issue.
As I said in an earlier post, airlines have check in times so why the big deal with P&O and yes it is only people travelling with P&O who seem to have an issue despite other cruise lines having check in times and people traveling from all over the country to them. This year I have travelled with 5 different cruise lines and there was only one where the boarding seemed chaotic. Guess which one!!
One way to stop all this is to adopt the system now used by RCI in that you check in, as with the airlines on line. You complete credit card details, download a photograph and download boarding card so that when you arrive the people at the check in area just check the bar code of your boarding card on their tablets and off you go to the ship as you do when boarding an aircraft.  So simple but as always just my personal opinion

Popsicle reacted to Oldworldtraveller in Britannia’s First Birthday
Britannia is in my opinion a lovely looking ship and P&O have tried to bring it into the modern day with a large selection of bars and restaurants to chose from. However I think P&O need to have a re-think as to who they are trying to appeal to. The old saying "You can't be all things to all people" comes to mind.
I saw an article saying that over 1.1 Million pillow chocolates had been given out in the 1st year on Britannia. Sounds wonderful until you actually look closely at the figures. Britannia can carry 4,324 passengers, however divide 1.1 million by 365 you get 3013 showing that on average Britannia has been sailing at less than 70% of capacity. That can't be good news for P&O.

I agree this must of been an awful experience, however has he showed his true hand when he said this.
"He said the friends he made on the cruise "ostracised" him because of his dealings with the authorities and he was isolated for the remaining 19 days of his cruise"
Really? His new friends must be very shallow in my opinion.
I don't think he has any need to sensationalise his experience with this, he's got a very strong case without it.

Think I would be visiting my lawyers if it were me. The travel agents have a duty of care to their client and it would appear if the reports are true they have breached this and are I would submit guilty of negligence. Forget the small print, it's what the law says that counts.

We had some free time on our first day in Yangon so my wife and I took a taxi ride 21 miles outside the city to the British War cemetery at Taukkyan

The cemetery contains some 6,374 war graves, 867 of them unidentified.

    I know what you mean.

Yangon, aka Rangoon, is one of those amazing places in the Far East that simply fascinate me.

The Burmese have such an interesting philosophy on life and that, coupled with it's colonial background, probably placed it at the top of my list.

And so many religions tolerated and practiced quite openly...

    Buddhist

    Hindu

    Christian

    and Islam

And all within half an hours walking distance in Yangon.

If you are a keen river cruiser an love adventure then the cruise my wife and i have just returned from is the one for you.

We travelled to Myanmar, formerly Burma, and cruised the 597 mile stretch of the Irrawaddy ( often referred to as 'The Road to Mandalay') between Mandalay and Yangon (formerly Rangoon)

Our cruise ship was the brand new Princess Panhwar which is operated by APT Travelmarvel and for this journey we opted for one of the two Princess Suites (202)...

...which was amazing with its panoramic views.

There were just 68 passengers on board looked after by 41 crew, all but one being Burmese. The friendliest crew we have ever sailed with.

The Captain even shared his 'tea leaf salad' with Solent Richard...

Due to the length of the river and the number of days on the cruise we had plenty of time between stops, there were 16 in all,  to leisurely cruise along the Irrawaddy and take in the life on what is Burma's lifeblood...

Seen here the confluence between the Irrawaddy and Chindwin Rivers...

I had three favourite stops. Mandalay, Yangon and the most amazing Buddhist archeological site at Bagan.

Here I took the only APT optional tour, an early morning 'Sunrise' Balloon flight...

Have seen this many times and the female you can hear talking on it always makes me laugh. "If they catch up, do you think we will pull over". Obviously thinks its like driving her car along the highway. The commentary is priceless.
On a serious note there are tour companies now that state should they get you back to the ship late they will get you to the next port of call free of charge. Wonder if it still applies if this was the last port of call prior to crossing the Atlantic!!

We've all seen the video's on YouTube of cruise passengers legging it down the gangway just in time, or not in time in some cases!

(here's one just in case you haven't)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-yrsXsJmbw

But what if the worst DOES actually happen?  Would you know what to do? (Apart from sheer and total panic of course, then finding a bar and sinking something strong rather quickly)

Here are some handy tips I have come across...!

Take photocopies of your passport out with you! No one would advise you to wander around with your actual passport in your pocket, but at least having a copy of it with you may speed things up if you need to change countries to catch up with your ship!

Keep a list of important contacts on you when you leave the ship - the main ones to remember are:
*Your cruise ship's port agent - this can be found on the daily schedule delivered to your cabin and changes per port so make sure you update it each day!
        * Your cruise lines UK contact number - they will be able to contact your cruise line representative/ship for you.
*The emergency contact number for your travel insurance company - you should make sure your cruise insurance covers being left behind too....!

First and foremost - Go and find the local port agent - these are employed by your cruise line and will be able to help you plan your ongoing travel, contact your insurers and liase with the ship for you.

This may all sound fairly simple and like common sense, but how many of us just go trotting off the ship with our towel & suncream and enough money for the day?

Feel free to share any other tips apart from the obvious - JUST BE BACK ON TIME!!
