The Caribbean is considered one of the best winter sun destination for us Brits! With flights directly from many regional airports and no visa’s required P&O certainly have the edge on the market where hassle free Caribbean Cruises are concerned.
Having done this cruise myself several times, I thought I would write a small guide as to why I personally believe that if you want to visit the Caribbean a cruise is the best way to do it, and while I have no affiliation to any one cruise line whatsoever I firmly believe the P&O way is the best value both for time and money!

Should you choose to take your cruise on one of the American Cruise lines such as Celebrity, Princess or Royal Caribbean you will be spoilt for choice with your ships. They all have such incredible facilities and the amenities onboard cannot be knocked at all. However, if you do choose an American line for the Caribbean you will find that you have to fly from the UK out to an American airport the day before the cruise embarks. Generally speaking this tends to be Miami. Of course entering the USA means you will also need to purchase and apply for a Visa Waiver, commonly known as an ESTA. This is a fairly straightforward process providing you don’t have any criminal records and will cost you approximately $14 (£9) per person.

Once you have landed in the USA, so long as you have taken a flight package with your operator you will then be met at the airport and transferred over to a local airport hotel for a 1 night stay. The following morning your cruise line will transfer you to the cruise port, sometimes this can be Miami but more often than not you would be taken over to Fort Lauderdale, a transfer which takes approximately 40 minutes to embark your ship. You will then have a couple of sailing days taking you across to the Caribbean Islands.  On a typical 10 night sailing on an American Cruise line you will visit four or five destinations as seen on this itinerary:

So here are the reasons why I personally believe that if you want to visit the Caribbean, a P&O Cruise really is the easiest way to do it!

No need to fly to the USA! – You will be able to choose from a range of regional airports flying you directly to Barbados. The flights are all chartered by P&O meaning that you don’t pay extortionate airline charges or extra for bags – they will even feed and water you along the way! All of your fellow travellers on the flight are also headed for the ship! And the best bit of all – no lugging your bags about! Once you have checked your bags in at your home airport they will be collected for you at the other end and taken straight to your cabin for you! Bliss!
No need to waste a day in a hotel! – Upon arrival in Barbados, you walk straight off the plane onto waiting transfer coaches on the concourse…. You don’t even step foot into Barbados airport! A brisk 25 minute transfer and your ship will be waiting to welcome you aboard!
See as many Islands as possible! – On a typical 14 night sailing you can expect to visit at least 9 Islands! Because you don’t lose days travelling from America and back this leaves plenty of time for hopping around the stunning islands that the Caribbean has to offer.

Keep it simple! -  As P&O are a British Company they use GBP Sterling onboard, so no worries about dollar to pound conversions, and you also avoid the hefty 15% service charges that are added to the cost of onboard purchases on the American Cruise Lines.

No hanging around! – On your last day you will remain onboard the ship for as long as possible. You can expect to be called for your transfer back to Barbados Airport around 3-4 hours before your flight. The Barbados customs team will have been onboard the ship in the day or so before you fly home and so you will have already completed your security checks! Your hold luggage is also taken off the ship for you and will see you back at your home airport! Therefore once you arrive back at the airport it’s a quick whizz through security and a minimal wait for your flight in departures! Easy!

All in all, I think it is fairly easy to see why P&O really do come out on top when looking at value for your money and time on a Caribbean Cruise.

Actually no, I couldn't disagree with you more! No one asked me to 'sing any praises' at all. That is my personal opinion and one I stand by.

I certainly have no qualms in pointing out where issues are to anyone, and if I didn't think that the changes were positive I would simply not have commented on here, and made my criticisms to the team involved in running the sites.
With regards to the new website, as with any new platform issues will always arise - but feedback is what is needed!! I am sure that your comments regarding the ease of use will be noted by the team. I personally think that this forum is far simpler than the old. As with anything that changes though you have to spend some time negotiating your way around to get used to where things are. The old website was troublesome and unreliable, and the changes that have been made will make things a lot simpler than they were.... it is a work in progress I understand and so some teething problems are bound to come to light.

I didn't actually say anyone had asked you to sing any praises what  I said was .. as a Bolsover employee you are hardly not going to support it,  of course you are entitled to your 'personal' opinion as anyone is, I just think yours and others might be slightly more biased.
Feedback is all well and good and I appreciate 'tweaks' can and probably will be made if possible but if people don't like the forum then they won't use it .. just my opinion

Just to clarify I think it is Data Roaming that you need to switch off not Data. This way you avoid the heavy bills but still get texts and wi-fi. I could be wrong but this works for me on my iPhone 6plus worldwide.
To avoid it locking onto the ships network on mine you go into settings, then 'Carrier' and then disable 'Auto' this will then search and show the available networks. You can select the one you wish to connect to providing your phone will accept it. Usually the national network will be ok or vodaphone in a lot of countries.

Popsicle, Minorca was owned by the British from 1715 to 1756 and the port of Mahon, one of the largest natural harbours in the world, 5km long, used to be a popular cruise stop.
For Portugal try Portimao or Vila Real de Santo Antonio in the south or Viano do Castelo in the north west.
For me, The Islands of the South Pacific but only one cruise line covers this, Paul Gauguin Cruises. The other area for me would be Vietnam and Cambodia another area not covered by many, in fact I think it is only Star Cruises that sail there on a regular basis.
As my LinkedIn profile reads "The world is a beautiful place and I want to see as much as possible before I pass to the next one"

Well with no hamper coming to my door the day of driving to Gatwick had approached and we made our way to the Hilton for our overnight stay, we parked our car and was very disappointed to find out we had to take our own luggage from the boot and wait for a bus to take us to the hotel. I mean we had to use public transport Marigold had not told us this so I was not happy at all just the thought of our luggage being by other peoples was enough to make me shudder and the seats had not been cleaned in years so I was pleased I had travelled with Dettol wipes in my Osprey handbag.

We arrived at reception after having to walk half way around the airport to find the darn walkway to the hotel where after some constructive criticism to the staff they upgraded our room to an executive room which was to our liking and it does pay to point out little things which you feel can be improved. We headed to the bar for a pre-dinner drink before we went for a meal  which we needed an overdraft for the prices are horrendous but as it was a one off I let it slip after one more drink we retired for a well earned sleep as we had to be up very early next morning.

It was an early morning 4am alarm call and after a shower and dressing in clothes suitable for flying in we left the Hilton and over the walkway back to the airport where we found out we needed to take a Monorail to the north terminal well how inconvenient and yet again something Marigold had not informed me about which we were not happy about as we have three suitcases as we are allowed a larger allowance being premium. I was beginning to think Marigold was not that good.

Check-in was wonderful the queue for those in economy was very very long but I was able to go straight to the check-in desk and was finished before I knew it I also got them to give me a fast track label so I could go through security faster and we were soon in the comfort of the No 1 longue having a nice spot of breakfast and a lovely latte to start the day. It did not seem that long until our gate number was advertised and it was not too long a walk to it however I told a nice man I had a slight leg injury so I managed to get a buggy to take us and I have to say Bob loved it and felt very important after all he is a VIM (very important minion)

The following day Marigold rang to thank me for her flowers and chocolates which she said was such an unexpected treat, I replied saying it was always wonderful to get a little something in the post which put a smile on your face and made your day (How much more can one hint?) surely that hamper must be on its way.
Marigold also wanted to know if I wanted to pre-book my seats for the aircraft or would I rather do it myself on-line or just take a chance? Well I did not have a clue what she was talking about but Marigold explained that for a small cost I could book a particular seat on the aircraft which she would recommend as there are not many premium seats, I asked Marigold to do it for me and parted with yet another £80 I do like her use of the word small I do not call £80 small I call it rather large but as a premium/balcony VIP I suppose one must do these things.
Marigold told me she would ring as soon as she had secured the seats for me and also mentioned she had put a little thank you in the post for me yes at long last the hamper what a glorious day.

Two days later the thunderclouds were above my head when another calendar arrived via the postman when Marigold said a little thank you she meant little, half a calendar I feel blessed well I felt something alright as I ripped the thing into pieces and gave it the same resting place as the first one, could my day get any worse?

Yes the answer was yes as Mrs Brock-worthy came calling to show me the lovely little gift she had received from Marigold the most lovely luggage tags and very nice quality. I expect she was touched at you sending the flowers I said to which Mrs Brock-worthy replied "Bless you for reminding me I must send some flowers I clean forgot to sort that out"

Well I allowed a week to pass and no sign from Royal mail or couriers with my hamper and with my turn at coffee morning fast approaching I decided to take the bull by the horns and ring Marigold up and drop a hint or two, I mean I am an important customer I doubt Marigold has many premium customers and even fewer balcony/premium customers so I expected better treatment from her.

As an important customer I do have Marigolds direct line so I gave her a quick ring only for the phone to be picked up by someone called Gemma who informed me Marigold was on holiday!     ON HOLIDAY I don't think she should be taking time off when she has my cruise to look after I am not sure I approve of such things. As Gemma was keen to help I just mentioned that Marigold has said in passing I would be receiving a gift from them shortly and I had not yet received anything, a little white lie I know but needs must and the lovely Gemma said she would look into it so feeling happy that my wicker basket would soon be here I went shopping for Bobs little holiday clothes. I managed to find him a lovely pirate outfit which made him look just like Johnny Depp well OK a rotund very yellow bulging eyed Johnny Depp but with his new red shades he looked adorable and now has clothes for casual formal and theme nights.

The day before my coffee morning and the postman delivered my gift from Gemma, I am now not a happy customer a calendar I mean we were nearly half way through the year and yes the pictures of the ships were nice but it has Pushovers logo over every one of them and I cant eat the darn thing. I wonder if Marigold has kept my hamper and has been eating its delightful contents now she is back from her holiday? I bet she wasn't tempted by the calendar. Note to self need to buy weed killer

Coffee morning again and with my calendar hidden at the bottom of my dustbin in a sealed black bag as I found it offensive, I endured Mrs Brock-worthy chatter on about her cruise yet again and how perfect it all was all coming along and how her cruise girl stroke specialist was fantastic and looked after her so well and couldn't do enough for her blah blah blah if fact Mrs Brock-worthy thinks so highly of her she is going to send her some flowers and chocolates as a thank you she has never had somebody so lovely as her Marigold ............................................ HER MARIGOLD ................ Well there is no way I am playing second fiddle to Mrs Brock-worthy so before she had got to the end of the gate after the coffee morning had ended I was on the phone to order flowers and chocolates for Marigold (her Marigold indeed) I think not. And I never had a chance to mention my cruise or balcony or being premium and still no hamper.................

The following morning I was sat with my morning coffee and my plate with two hobnobs biscuits, this is a tip for the ladies and most of the men try putting a set amount of biscuits on a plate to keep yourself from consuming the whole biscuit barrel thus insuring you maintain your beach body. Nobody likes to see a jelly belly or worse still the whole trifle on parade.

Anyhow while enjoying my coffee the phone rang and Marigold not of the latex kind (I hope) was on the line with cruises she thought I would enjoy. After discarding the Med as we have been so many times now I wanted a change and also discarding the Fjords and Iceland as I want a holiday with sun, not rain and more layers than an onion it left us with the Caribbean.

Now I had sailed to the Caribbean once before but to be honest the weather was not to my taste far to cold leaving and I swear the cruise company only sailed under the rain clouds as all this "Ooooooh it gets a little warmer every day" was a load of poppycock it didn't, it rained on day one and it was miserable as sin everyday except one the whole time in the Caribbean and just to make the holiday complete it rained the whole way home. My letter of complaint that holiday was the longest I had ever written and covered 43 pages and come to think of it I never even got a hamper then hmmmmm How on earth has Mrs Brock-worthy managed it after three cruises all inside? After telling Marigold of my concerns she broached the idea of going a little later and flying rather than sailing from Southampton.

FLYING!!! flying! Is she mad? that would involve airports and who will park my car safely? and one never knows who may be on the same plane as you slobbering drool on your shoulder eweeee I am not sure I was made for flying, not sure at all.
Marigold suggested if we flew we should at a small extra cost book Premium class which is like first class so she says and is a small area with large seats better service and curtained off as it is just for premium customers, apparently you also board first so you can enjoy a champagne while everybody else gets on.

Well much to my surprise I found myself booking a balcony cabin to the Caribbean flying Premium from Gatwick, my first not happy moment was when Marigold gave me the price of Premium, now I am not sure what planet she is on but I would hardly call and additional £600 a small extra cost but she was very slick at sliding the price in without pausing for breath. I returned to my coffee after finishing my phone call to Marigold, my new personal cruise specialist to ponder how many days will it take for my hamper to arrive and what extra goodies am I going to get in mine not only for the balcony but also for being a Premium customer.....................caviar.... crackers ......port
