    New Greenland cruise on Oriana

Good afternoon, I've received a flyer about Oriana's new cruise to Greenland in July 2018, has anyone else considered this cruise? It's a 19-night departure from 23 July to 11 August. I quite liked the itinerary as i haven't visited Greenland before, nor have I been to Stornoway (Isle of Lewis). A nice long cruise through the summer (no kids!). Qaqortoq, Nuuk, Isafjordur etc, hopefully a spot of whale watching. I have previously enjoyed cruises on Oriana although I'm yet to see her after the refit. I'm quite tempted, just need to find out the single supplement!

Would You pay For Travel Brochures?

If that was the only available way to get hold of a paper copy then yes, I would as I prefer to sit and read through a brochure rather than clicking around on the computer (that's probably my age!). After all these years of being able to wander into my local travel agency and pick up a couple of brochures for research it would certainly grate me to have to start paying now.

    Hurtigruten launches children’s programme

I think this is a wonderful idea. I would love to take my grandchildren on a Hurtigruten cruise, they're at a great age where they love exploring and not yet addicted to big 'games rooms / computer hubs' offered on newer cruise liners, so to experience a cruise such as this would be an incredible and educational opportunity for them.
  5. I think I spent my day in Grand Cayman in exactly the same way as you Solent Richard. What a wonderful, friendly place - I have great memories.

    Princess Cruises New Fleet Livery

Princess's logo has been around since the 60's - it's the 'Seawitch' - According to maritime legend the Seawitch, half mermaid, half human, is a beauty of the depths and has the power to entrance seamen with her long waves of hair as she rules her kingdom beneath the waves. Make of that what you will!

    World Cruise 2017 benefits ending

I've been making enquiries for the Queen mary 2 Perth to Sydney sector in February 2017 and my TA has informed me the past passenger benefit of 'double' on board spending money will end on 30 November, so I need to make my decision this week. I just wanted to share this with anyone who was wavering to book before the end of the month as I'm told in good faith this isn't one of those 'hurry must end' things that is extended time & again! Thanks

    World Cruise 2017 benefits ending

Hello again SR, A huge thank you for sharing this with us, I absolutely love to see photos of destinations it certainly helps when i'm planning. Looks the the wine tour is a definite then! Can I ask did you book this independently or through Cunard? I had intended to visit Federation Square, it looks great. I'm not sure if I could be persuaded to enter 'The Edge' it looks terrifying but I guess the view is worth it. The gardens do sound wonderful I hadn't realised there was so much to do within the vicinity. Thank you once again for your advice.

    World Cruise 2017 benefits ending

Hi Solent Richard, Thanks for sharing these photos and offering your advice...I'm certainly going to need it! I have been doing my research for some time where Perth & Sydney are concerned, but any personal recommendations you could make for Adelaide and Melbourne would be greatly appreciated. In Adelaide I've been contemplating either a wine tour in Barossa Valley, (I like wine!), or Cleland Wildlife Park (would love to see Koalas & Kangaroos up close). In Melbourne I'm open to suggestions to be honest, I'd love to have a good look round the city centre itself, but please let me know if there's a must-see here! Many thanks in advance. Matilda

The shuttle transfer I used was booked through Cruisingexcursions and took me directly from the port to Bargeplein, just next to the city centre. £28 return. See their own description below: Joining Instructions The shuttle service will depart from the port at 9am prompt, this is not a guided service, the coach will be waiting with a Cruising Excursions sign clearly displayed in the window. The drop off point in Bruges is in Bargeplein, just next to the city centre. Within a 5 minute walk passengers are in the historic part of Bruges. Passengers can walk over the small bridge and arrive in the Minnewaterpark, the first interesting point of Bruges. The Market place is approximately 23 minutes’ walk from the drop off point. The shuttle starts at 9am and returns back to the port for 3.30pm I hope this helps wanderlust, have a look at their website to see if fits with your cruise.

It's not far wanderlust, only about 7 or 8 miles I think. There's a shuttle from the port.

    I'm on Duty this week

I don't know what Solent Richard's blog has to do with this Cruise Club Forum? I for one have never read it, don't know what or where it is nor do I want to read it by the sounds of things but please lets keep the two things seperate as that is exactly what they are. Too many topics keep swinging back round to his bloody blog! I'm hoping that the majority of other users of this forum are here, like me, to discuss all things travel and cruise related, look at photos and read honest reviews, and yes, occasionally join in with the odd light-hearted conversation about 'Great British Bake Off' or whatever takes my fancy if I feel like it! Please let's drop the subject now as we're going round in circles.Thank you all I hope you agree.
  16. Great photos Richard, looks like you both had a wonderful time as always.
  17. Have just seen a 'tweet' about Princess Cruises' latest announcement of their new ship which will be based in Shanghai from summer 2017. It's a sister ship to Royal & Regal built for the chinese market with cruises to Japan and Korea. I'm looking forward to finding out more about this ship and seeing some artists impressions when they're released!

    Which Clever Booker Are You?

Ha I'm definitely Bobley too Land Ahoy! As a single traveller, or whether holidaying with friends or family, it's all about circumstance. If I have the money and I see I bargain i'll go for it, or if i'm trying to plan a trip to coincide with friends i'll book way in advance if needs be.

    Leaving Items On Board.

I did lose an evening bag once on board Oceana (perhaps after a few too many g&t's). The next morning once I realised I had left it somewhere, I retraced my steps from the evening before to no avail so I went to reception to see if it had been handed in. It hadn't, but they suggested I called back that evening. Feeling disappointed I thought if it hadn't been handed in by now I'd never find it, but low and behold that evening I called back and it had been found, so yes there are some honest people around.

    Silversea, Regent And Seabourn

Whilst in Italy a couple of months ago I saw a Regent ship (Seven Seas Mariner) and a Silversea ship (sorry, can't remember which one) and I was surprised to see the Silversea ship looking rather rusty and shabby, not what you'd expect from such a luxurious line. The Regent ship from the outside was gleaming and far more opulent in appearance from where I was standing. Sad to say I haven't sailed on either!
  25. On a recent Regent cruise I met some fellow passengers who sailed regularly with Swan Hellenic, although this is a cruise line I hadn't considered before they were very enthusiastic about it and i'm seriously looking into it as an option for next year. From what i've read these cruises are very much 'history and culture' orientated which appeals to me, and some of the ports of call are more unusual than the norm. Having done many cruises before i've visited the more-frequented ports and it would be nice to explore somewhere new. What surprised me the most is the quality of shore excursions which are inluded in the price, I would normally steer clear from the expensive trips booked through the cruise line opting to do my own thing at a fraction ofthe cost, but the Minerva cruises i'm looking at are quite attractive. Or are they..? Any thoughts from experienced Minerva passengers please?
