ANNROBINSONSTOCKPORT reacted to cruise chef in None Uk Call Centres
As some cruise companies seem to be moving operations out of the uk is this backward step, and is it really helping customers with the service they receive.
I have just spent 20 minutes on the phone clearly to a none uk centre and all I can say is bring it back to the UK!!!!

I think the reason Jaczs is that one smoker can affect quite a lot of people. It is not a one on one situation.

Following from Oldworldtraveller, even ignoring the decreasing number of smokers the one-side-of-the-ship method would still be unfair.

You'd find that, while smokers can basically choose to get a cabin anywhere on the ship (many will happily contain their smoking to the designated areas) the non-smokers (at least those with respiratory conditions) will have no choice but to limit themselves to half of the balcony cabins on the ship!

Ultimately smoking is a choice and imposing that choice of yours on to other people is unfair and damaging.

A very valid point Duncan and one the smoking fraternity conveniently tend to ignore.

What always amazes me is how on earth do they manage, having claimed 'it is a need', to desist on a 12 hour long haul flight.

I can see where you're going with this argument, but I'd say this more applies to non-smokers.
You, as a smoker, can use all of the same facilities (including your balcony) as non-smokers.  If you're allowed to smoke on your balcony then adjacent non-smokers (who may have asthma or other respiratory issues) cannot use their balcony.

Excellent news, it was the only complaint we had on the Ventura transatlantic crossing last year.

Yes I am so pleased too that they have changed the rules since we booked our first cruise with P&O on the Adonia. There is nothing worse than breathing in second hand smoke

Pleased P & O are prohibiting smoking on cabin balconies, just as you settle to admire the view with glass of wine and feeling all is well, next door decides to smoke, any one with breathing problems have to suffer, and move inside to avoid the problem.

Just returned from a cruise on Ventura.  Left our balcony for approx. 15 mins  and returned to find a cigarette end had burnt a large hole in a towel over a chair and was burning a hole in the chair when we put it out and reported the incident.    It then came to light that cigarette ends had landed on other balconies around ours, one of which was alight and the smell of smoke had alerted the guests in the cabin.  As on other ships, smokers were specifically requested not to throw cigarette ends over balconies at the lifeboat drill.  NO SMOKING ON BALCONIES IS LONG OVERDUE.

I am a member of the "Old Brigade", ie I have sailed P&O and other cruise lines many times.  Being "British" used to mean being reliable, honest, dependable and understated. The White Sisters, as P&O ships were known, were conspicuous by the quiet way they entered port, stately and serenely, not blaring out pop music and spilling out passengers in their thousands to over run the locality.
Painting the ship with the new logo is moving towards the Americanisation of P&O.  It will look atrocious. Cheap and nasty.

I would not consider going on the new Britannia. The very thought of being cooped up with 3000+ people, all that noise, all that queueing to get on and off the ship and at the food hall brings me out in a rash. What's to like.

I loved the now retired Artemis. I first sailed on her as Royal Princess. Less is more. Now I like the Adonia. Quiet and friendly.

I saw this on a P&O e-mail yesterday. I can't say I like it. I've seen similar excesses on other cruise lines ships, and thought how cheap and tasteless they look compared to the plain white hulls of P & O. They claim it "captures the spirit of Britain today". I'm afraid they may be right.

I am starting to wonder who P&O are trying to appeal to. I can't see the new look going down too well with the old P&O brigade. I personally like the existing white hulls and superstructure topped by the buff coloured funnel. It looked serene, discreet yet decidedly up market.  Now they are copying NCL, Aida, Moby Ferries and to a lesser degree Disney. It's not the fancy paint work that sells cruises, it's quality of service and food so why not spend the money on those items?

Hi I object to be being accused as anti- British.  I don't mind who owns a company which is good and unfortunately the USA owned P&O isn't a good cruise line. It's motto appears have become never the quality, we will lower the artficially inflated price several times and fill the ship - they won't mind if the product is crap as long as they think it's cheap.  Unlike most USA and European passengers we don't complain to the same extent and nothing highlights this better than P&O's customer care department (the least accurately named department in Britain?), they obviously took the satire from Orwell's 1984 as gospel truth.  If I find a company isn't to my liking I will say so and give my reasons and if you disagree so be it.

    Good afternoon

Following a recent suggestion we have just created a new area within the forum – Cruising – Meet On Board.

Here you can plan to meet other Cruise Club members sailing with you. You could arrange to share a tour or shore excursion, catch up over dinner or enjoy a night on the tiles.

Please note that this forum is only visible to forum members and will only appear when you are signed in to the forum.

Please also be very careful what personal information you share on any forum.

Always a good topic to talk about... Food!!

What is the best Speciality dining experience you have had on board so far??

I have only been to 2, but have been thoroughly impressed by both.

Sindhu on Azura - Atul Kocher's restaurant- simply exquisite. Never tasted Aisan food like it... a fusion of traditional cuisine with a modern twist.

And quite possibly the most bonkers place of all ...  Qsine, onboard Celebrity Ships - a sharing, tasting, exploring adventure of food from around the world.
Definately worth a try if you are going on a Celebrity Solstice/Millenium Class ship!

    Few photo's of Qsine below...
