    We cruised around the Hawaiian islands in 2002, so these comments are woefully out of date. Furthermore, we had booked a pre-cruise hotel stay in Honolulu, and managed to explore Oahu independently. We did not book ship's excursions on other Hawaiian islands, so I cannot comment upon organised shore excursions. However, the following details might provide a few pointers.   6. I recent years, we have sailed with various lines, including Azamara Club Cruises, Princess Cruises, Regent Seven Seas, and most recently, P&O Cruises. The main Compass Rose restaurant on three Regent Seven Seas ships, Mariner, Navigator and Voyager was excellent, so there was no need to look elsewhere. However, it is worth bearing in mind that Princess have ships around the world and the clientele tends to be multinational, with a significant proportion of passengers from the USA. They operate several ships from Southampton and most of the passengers on voyages from Southampton are British. Consequently, the atmosphere on those voyages is more akin to P&O.   13. There is a simple reason why P&O restaurants are always full for both sittings - and it is not necessarily because a lot of passengers like set times. It is much easier for cruise lines to operate fixed time dining because they know how many meals to prepare for each sitting. If you opt for a "Saver" fare, you will forfeit the right to demand a dining preference - and P&O will decide when and where they want you to dine.   17. I use a Post Office Platinum MasterCard and I also have a Saga Visa card. Neither of these cards loads the exchange rate or charges fees for purchases in other currencies. Their published exchange rates are very similar to interbank rates, although MasterCard rates are often marginally better than Visa exchange rates.   20. Maybe you have hit the nail on the head. If (and I said if, not when), P&O remove the kettles, cups and saucers, your steward won't have to wash and replace them every morning and evening.   23. I have never contemplated purchasing a future cruise credit with P&O, for the simple reason that the payment is non-refundable, if circumstances change and you cannot book a cruise. P&O's sister company, Princess Cruises still offer a similar facility (£75 per credit), and if you wish, you can pay for multiple credits. Future Cruise credits on Princess are valid for two years - and can be extended, if you have not booked your cruise before the initial expiry date.   24. Standard ocean view cabins on R Class ships are situated at right angles to the corridor, with the entrance at one end and the window at the other. Restricted view cabins on deck 6, which are situated parallel to the corridor, are different. The sleeping area is at one side of the door - and the desk area and shower room are at the other side of the door. Consequently, the window is next to the queen sized bed. That is fine, for checking whether everyone has attended the safety drill, but it might not work in a real emergency, if the ship's computers and communication systems have failed.
