  1. It looks like they are finally ready to do something with the Costa Concordia. Not sure on the exact dates but they are saying September. The below was taken from a travel news website... Grounded ship Costa Concordia is expected to be raised into an upright position in September. No official date has been set by the Italian authorities or by the two companies - Titan Salvage and Micoperi - that were awarded the recovery project, CBS News reports. The ship ran aground off the island of Giglio on January 13 last year. Months of work by around 500 salvage workers have suffered delays caused by the weather and complications in efforts to drill and level the uneven granite seabed. The companies have undergone months of planning to ensure the ship is ready to be rotated into an upright position, but the next phase to remove the ship from the sea completely is unlikely to happen until next year. Speaking to CBS News, salvage master Nick Sloane said two massive tanks had been installed on the bow of the ship to stablise the ship and reduce any chance of further damage. The tanks, which were installed last week, also provide buoyancy. Microphones and cameras will be installed in at least five areas of the ship to allow for constant monitoring during the eight to 10 hour operation. Sloane said: "There will be a lot of noise and it's important that we listen to the different sections. "We can take measures and make adjustments depending on any twist and tortion on the ship. We are confident the ship will be coming upright and know the first 20 degrees of rotation are critical. It's going to be a long, nerve-racking day." Two of the 32 people killed when the Costa capsized are still missing and authorities hope to recover their bodies after the parbuckling. Officials also still need to empty the safe deposit boxes in the passenger cabins and return belongings to their legitimate owners. Meanwhile, the trial of the ship's captain, Francesco Schettino, is due to resume next month. Five other members of the Costa Concordia staff were convicted of manslaughter in July and sentenced to less than three years each.
  2. Just booked our holiday through Bolsover for next year, it's 500 days away! This is the longest we have ever had to wait for a holiday as we always book last minute. We do have a few other holidays planned for this year, so not too bad I suppose. How many days until your next cruise?

How many days until your next cruise?

Azamara Quest... nice! Never sailed with them but I get the impression it's very laid back and more relaxed than other cruise lines. The North Coast 500 looks amazing. Hopefully in 6 weeks time the weather should have picked up. How long will it take you? I'd love to do a river cruise but I think my kids would miss the beach.

Don't blame you, who doesn't love the sun! I still need to do the Caribbean

28 day Caribbean cruise sounds great mitch! It's fantastic that you can still get to see the world without the need to fly.

    Advance Boarding for cruise ships

Pointless then. We've never had an issue getting on or had to wait. Usually on the ship for 1pm. Not sure what time boarding starts, maybe we are just late.

Wow, that's a lot of cruises booked - lucky you. We went on Ventura in 2016. What are you fancying for 2020? You could wait and book on the new P&O ship

    Advance Boarding for cruise ships

Depends how early. If it was 8am it would be like an extra day at sea. Providing that the ship's facilities are available to use and you can get food and drinks then I think it's a good idea. Expect they would want to get the previous passengers off first though. If it's only 1 or 2 hours before the normal time then there isn't much point.

What has happened to the Forum

I agree, the new initial looks much better

Would you pay to reserve your sunbed?

£22 for the duration of the holiday isn't bad at all. If it was £22 a day then that would be too much!

    P&O Cruises have sold Adonia!

Oh no, this will upset a few people, especially those that have cruises booked. Making way for the super sized cruise ships I expect...

    Agree!

    P&O Cruises have sold Adonia!

You'd have thought so, especially as they have already taken her away once!

How Much do Cruise Staff Earn

Not sure Furby. I can't imagine people actually asking the staff directly what they earn, is that what you're suggesting? You wouldn't walk into a hospital and ask a nurse what he or she gets paid but that doesn't stop the media writing about it and people talking about it. Also, I'm sure cruise ship staff pay was big news a few years back and I'm sure there was a TV programme where somebody went undercover on a ship to investigate wages.

Maybe they wonder what it takes to have to put up with some of the obnoxious twits you find on cruises! Think it will always be a topic of discussion, as it is with tips.

Great news, something else to look forward to. I like Queen Anne.

How Much do Cruise Staff Earn

£674 per month for a waiter. Let's say they work 8 hours a day, 6 days a week, that would work out around £26 per day, or £3.25 per hour. Chances are they probably work more hours than this so it would be less.
  19. Does anyone on here have any more details about the new P&O Cruises ship launching in 2020? I'm hoping this one is more like Royal Caribbean or NCL with more activity type facilities for families and children. I think it would be a great move for P&O and would allow them to compete with the more innovative cruise lines / ships.

Further info on the new P&O Cruises ship

Some great ideas there Cruise Chef You see, that is why I said it would need to be classy. I'm not talking Cleethorpe's sea front, although some donkey rides around the promenade might go down well for those who have ate too much at dinner

Further info on the new P&O Cruises ship

How about a mini ferris wheel, helter skelter and waltzer? Oh and don't forget the claw machines and coin pushers in the amusements Seriously though, I'm sure P&O's design team could come up with something unique. NCL and RCI don't struggle to pack this stuff in. I mean look at this thing, there's fun absolutely everywhere you look.. !!
  22. Nice of Royal Caribbean… https://finance.yahoo.com/news/royal-caribbean-opens-cruise-ship-191300488.html How would you feel about leaving extended family and pets?
  23. Not sure how I'd feel about it if I was offered the chance. Think I'd stay and stick it out with the family. Plus I wouldn't want to leave the dog to fend for himself!
  24. Lots of seats in the smoking area there and even sunbeds during the day. If you can't find a spare seat just grab one from somewhere else and move it into the smoking area.
