Whilst I agree that it is frustrating such charges have now appeared on the room service menus with P&O, I had been expecting it for sometime. The majority of their fares are lower and late bookings have been of great popularity over the past few years since the rise of the 'Saver Fare'.
If they're running the initial cost of the cruise lower then they need to recoup money elsewhere. Hence the need for subtle changes like this. It may impact some more than others but personally, I'm not one for using the room service menu much anyway. I'd much rather head out and about on board.

Hope we see an end to the huge amount of tray's full of half eaten food, littering the corridors ,not as if there is a shortage of eating places on any cruise ship....Davybe

Thanks David H for the advice on visiting Halong Bay, it was certainly worth the trip and stopping in the Vin Pearl Hotel on its own island with the views was well worth it

I would agree about the formal for dinner on Christmas Day.  Unfortunately I would also agree about the 'horror' of Christmas jumpers aplenty during the day.   Call me old-fashioned - well frankly call me what you like - but Christmas jumpers for me, fall into the same category as football shirts - November 5th is the best day for them
Whatever you choose to wear, I hope you have a fantastic day.

I think the teachers are grossly hypocritical when one of freinds daughter keeps her child out of school for 10 days for a holiday to Disney  with impunity. Not only was it the child's first term at school but the mother is a teacher at that school as well! But apparently she is good friends with the headmistress so thats probably ok then.

OK this is one of those topics that will never be resolved
Holiday firms are a business, so charge by demand.
However, when the choice is a few hundred pounds fine or a few thousand pounds extra for a holiday, it’s sometimes a simple choice.  Also what about those who cannot take their annual holidays the same time as school holidays.
Like the question as to can schools be fined for closing during school term time
One last point, when a teacher takes time off in term time are they fined?

It is people like that, that cause norovirus and the ship gets the blame. That person should have known better . I bet he would be the first person to complain if he or family member was taken ill .

I always worry when we go down the means tested route, I can forsee many stashing the cash at home in an unsafe environment in a bid to avoid those in the government knowing what they have or haven't got. Where do you draw the breadline? and all the more where do you draw the pension threshold line by the time I get to the magical age I probably wont get a pension or be able to retire at all unless illness takes over. I personally dont begrudge any pensioner who has paid in all their life receiving a bit of help just those who haven't contributed at all!!!!
I arrived in this world with nothing(other than my parents love) and intend to to leave the same way even if it means me in a box made of packing crates on November the 5th and to all those politicians who claim to be looking after my wellbeing  your only in it for yourself!

Not a bad place.....Our family moved to Ireland just before the war (second world war) from Europe. There are some beautiful places around the North which, now "The Troubles" are over, are being rediscovered.  County Donegal remains in my heart to this day (family holidays there as a child) and Antrim is lovely too. Went back a few years ago and was nicely surprised how Belfast has changed...for the good. There is a quaint Jewish population in Ireland (which we were part of) which many people don't know about. As a child I was once asked...."So are you a Catholic Jew or a Protestant Jew?"...only in Ireland!!!!!!!!

    Hi All
There are 11 lovely ladies including myself (the hen), on Britannia this weekend.
I am in the middle of making a list of what to pack.
Why does a short break feel just as stressful as a 14 night break? Or could it just be the pre wedding nerves starting to creep in?

vamp23 got a reaction from doratheexplorer in MSC from Southampton, good idea or leave well alone?
Personally I have never tried them but my Aunty who normally travels P&O went with a group of her friends as the itinerary was better than P&O and she raved about them . She went with an open mind as the prices were very good and she was really surprised when she got onboard she said the ships facilities were good the balcony was larger than expected and the food was very good even in the buffet. From what I have seen of up and coming new ships I think they have upped their game.  Go for it

We went to Zia in the hills it has the most amazing sunsets and Kos Town has a lovely Town square where all the locals go and plenty of nice cafes around it. Down side there was a McDonalds in Kos Town  but only a small one .  Love Kos we were to go there again this year but having to change due to my husbands job hours being cut .  Enjoy .  Oh and also when we were there the Star Clipper ships were in or as my son calls them ghost/pirate ships

vamp23 reacted to DavidH in DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW BIG THE CABINS ON AZAMARA SHIPS ARE ?
    Hi vamp23,
As those who have followed this forum for some time may remember from my previous posts, the overall experience on an Azamara cruise has, so far, made it our favourite cruise line.  This is reflected by the fact that we have two more in the pipeline (as well as one with another line sandwiched in between).
It has to be said that the Staterooms are not the largest at sea.  "Compact and bijoux" comes to mind.  Their website quotes the following sizes:-
    Club Interior - 14.7 sq.m.   Club Ocean View - 15.8 sq.m.   Club Veranda - 16.3 sq.m. + 3.8 sq.m. veranda.
We prefer to book a Club Deluxe Veranda (category VX).  There are only 10 of these on board, situated at either end of the ship, overlooking either the bow or the stern.  We always prefer to be at the stern for views to either side of the ship.  We find this category to be perfectly adequate to meet our needs and very comfortable.  I like to spend time on our own balcony, particularly in the morning and always for a digestif (or two) last thing at night (or should that be early morning???).
On our most recent cruise on Azamara Journey, we found the main dining room experience so good we never bothered with the speciality options.
If you want more space, the sun beds on deck are particularly comfortable with good thick mattresses and the service on deck is good too.
    Hope that helps.
    DavidH

This has made interesting reading as I'm booked on a ship next year that was built in the same design so I was interested to read the comments, I have to say I'm not overly concerned as the cabin size seams similar to that of P&O's Oceana and I managed perfectly well with that
