it does make me chuckle all this fuss, several studies have shown that our antiseptic city lives have caused increases in asthma and other respiritory complaints over and above the problems of air quality and the over prescribing of antibiotics are causing all sorts of problems. studies showed that individuals in rural areas particularly farming communities were far healthier and much more resistant to illness than their city dwelling counterparts as they were exposed to far more bacteria etc and build up a natural resistance.  the vacinne for smallpox was developed from antibodies from a milkmaid who got cowpox from working with animals and her natural immunity resulted in many a life saved.
i am all for sensible cleanliness but people do take it to extremes mainly driven by the constant adverts promoting the germ killing abilities of inumerable products. soap and water will sufice in most cases. antibacterial this and that are not needed hot soapy water is more than adequate.

i am ex army and one post i had involved checking systems at various bases and civilian establishments with a military connection. it was a rolling inspection process as well as attempts to breach security. any facility open to the public is "at risk" by the very nature of its openness. the more people you have to be able to admit the easier it is to breach. the important thing is awareness of staff and the public to be vigilent and to have systems in place to deal with reports of suspicious activity appropriatley. better 10 false alarms than one terrorist incident.
leaking of what seems a routine test does not help and alarmist press coverage does not help those conducting the tests or training. indeed publicising potential weak spots is definateley unhelpful as plugging those gaps may need major time consuming work.

theres fluid pricing sinbad then theres out and out rip off. one cruise i was looking at last year had a headline price then a single supplement of 60%. later in the year the headline price had gone down but the single supplement was now 100%. making the net price considerably higher for single travellers only.

other than the obvious one of building tips into the cruise price there are a number of issues with cruise pricing that drive me nuts.
i am a  widower and ex military. pricing a cruise is a nightmare and i am only really talking about p&o as i am restricted to cruises from the uk as i cant fly at the moment.
firstly theres the single supplement versus single cabin, single cabins have been introduced on a lot of ships and you would think it would simplify the booking process but no it can actually be cheaper to book a double cabin for single occupency ???? also the amount of single supplement goes up and down depending on when you book.
then youve to add in the full fare with obc versus saver fare etc and the fact that saver fare disqualifies the military benefit why? i am still ex military. likewise if i book on board another cruise the military benefit disappears.
you almost need a full blown spreadsheet to calculate the actual net price of the cruise.
basically if i go for the lowest net cost of a cruise i will never get any benefit for being ex military so i think that is particularly disingenuous of p&o.
then there is the looming spread of all inclusive drinks packages etc, i drink very little and a drinks package is of no real benefit but when they introduce a drinks package the individual drinks prices go up to push people into taking the package so i will lose out there.
i am currently looking for a 7 day cruise for next year july/aug and its driving me nuts.
am i the only one or is it my age lol.

I’ve been saying for years that single cabins are not cost effective and you nearly always get a better deal paying a supplement for a double.

i will be polite and say that as we live in a democratic country with free speech your entitled to your opinion. but i will exercise my right to disagree with you.
the expectations and demands made on our armed forces and civil emergancy services relative to their salaries are rediculous and any benefit that a company wishes to give them in recognition of that service is welcome and deserved. but it should be an additional benefit over and above any benefit they give other customers.
in the past very few uk companies gave any recognition to them, it is nice now to see that changing.

You seem to have forgotten 'National Service' Jinky. That was not a career choice and there are thousands of people still alive from those times. I think had you ever been in a theatre of war, you may have a different opinion. As always just my opinion.

the trouble as well is us demanding antibiotics etc for the slightest sniffle etc the docs etc need to be stronger and refuse them. antibiotics dont do anything for colds and viruses.
time and sensible use of pain killers and antiinflamatories treating the symptems and avoiding other people to infect is the best thing.

And nor should they. The US can do what they like but in the UK it`s a career choice like any  others and they should have no benefit that other public servants  don`t get.

i think our over sanitised environment has a lot to do with it.
there was a study of asmatics between those living in and around animals on farms and small holdings and those in modern housing etc and the results were startling those in what would be considered dirtier environments were healthier and suffered considerably less from respiritory problems far less than could be accounted for in  any difference in air quality.
the worst obviously were those in highly poluted city centres but even those in cleaner towns where air quality wasnt a factor were far more susceptible to bugs of all discriptions whereas those encountering the widest range of unsanitary conditions were healthier overall.

at the end of the day you can only give them what youve got and its no good committing in advance to a particular company these days as they will rip you off on the premium if they think you will def renew as your going away over the renewal date. i would just start hunting a new policy 30 days before as usual so long as you have a policy or policies in place on the day of embarkation i cant see it being a problem.

just give them the current policy and give them the new one once you have it.
