blondie reacted to Sue and Mick Chapman in Viking Sea - Homelands Ocean Cruise
We took this cruise from the 22 May to 5 June 2016 on Viking Sea.
We have been back home for a week and are reeling from the excellent holiday we have just had with Viking Ocean Cruises.
Absolutely everything was perfect, even the weather was fabulous.
We thought it was expensive but quite honestly you get what you pay for and we certainly did.  We were treated like Royalty for 15 days from beginning to end with 400 crew to look after 930 passengers.
The ship is absolutely beautful and everything in it is.  The staff couldn't do enough for us.  When we arrived at our stateroom the Steward came and explained everything about the stateroom we needed to know and said if we needed anything just ask.
We had 24 hour room service for tea and breakfast a few mornings.
The food was brilliant and the restaurants too.  The Chef's Table was fabulous with food that was so different but perfectly cooked.  We dined there 4 times.
What can I say about the Italian Restaurant Manfredis except that it was fabulous especially the Rib Eye Steak, we dined there 4 times too.
We had breakfast in the World Cafe which had an excellent selection of foods and we also had lunch in here.  Every day there was a variety of food.
We also went to The Restaurant  - excellent and Mamsen's which had brilliant waffles. Both restaurants are excellent too.
The tours we went on  were so well organised, there was no rushing every time we were told where to get on the bus etc.  Even the electronic signing in and off the ship was not a problem.
We tried the spa which was fabulous and very luxurious.  The cinema and the Torshavn bar were both brilliant.  The shows we saw and the guest artists were worth watching.  We even saw a couple of films and was given popcorn to eat while watching the film.
We just cannot recommend Viking Sea and Viking Cruise LIne enough.  They are a fabulous company to deal with and sail with.  Our stateroom number was 5026.
There were even tables with glass tops and they were actually computers that you just tapped and you could play games on, ie chess, drafts and card games - fabulous.

As many of you may know, Queen Mary 2 will soon go into dry dock from 27th May to 21st June, where she will be remastered to embark on a new chapter of innovation. Last week Cunard unveiled the new menus behind their new culinary experience and if you haven’t seen you can take a look here. The pastries in the all-new Carinthia Lounge look amazing as does the food in the Verandah Grill. Does anything off the new unveiled menus catch your eye? And have any lucky members got a cruise booked aboard Queen Mary 2 after her dry dock?

Another good reason why I book my cruises with Bolsover Cruise Club, they advised me on this months ago.

As usual though the press take one persons story and run it around as if its the Gospel.  Yes the rules did change and yes agents do have a responsibility to pass these changes on but at the end of the day Thomson are correct this is a passengers own responsibility to check what visas they need and get them.  I know for a FACT that anyone who had already been granted an ESTA already with an older style passport would get an Email from them advising of the changes.

Plus it affects so few people that again not really a story, the people who wont have an ePassport will have had their passports issued between October 2005 and October 2006 so with most cruise operators and holiday companys asking for a 6 month validity on someones passport then these older passports should have been renewed anyway unless the travellers are ignoring this advise. And if so again its not the agents fault.

All the article needed was a picture of the family looking sad pointing at their passport

    Hi,

Just joined the forum today. Booked with Bolsover a few times and then noticed this forum so thought I would sign up and give it a go.

My wife and I have done 8 cruises in total with a variety of cruise lines including P&O, Princess, Celebrity, and Regent. Looking forward to seeing what the forum has to offer.

We're actually off on our next cruise very soon, just a few days in fact. About to go away with Celebrity again, this time on the Equinox, which will be the first time we've sailed aboard this ship. We've cruised on Solstice Class ships before however so should be familiar surroundings.

Looking forward to this cruise in particular however as it will be to celebrate our wedding anniversary. With that in mind we decided to push the boat out a bit and booked Celebrity's jet set sail. Cannot wait to get going now especially flying from a private departure lounge, should be very nice, I'm hoping so anyway!

I'll be sure to let you all know how I get on when I return.

    Barry

My wife & I have just committed to a 16 night cruise next June with Saga. Now I may be getting on a bit but never considered myself a 'Saga' passenger (I apologise now if you are a regular saga sailor!). But, having just come off the phone to my travel agent at Bolsover they have suggested an itinerary called 'A Mediterranean Trio'. I didn't even realise Bolsover did saga holidays but apparantly they've recently started selling them.

We prefer smaller ships and as well as some of the ports in particular attracting us to this cruise (Castellón de la Plana, Dalt Vila in Ibiza), we were rather pleasantly surprised at the inclusions of this holiday - as well as the usual meals etc you also get gratuities inlcuded, wine or beer with meals, and a chauffeur to take us from our house to the port. Pretty good service if you ask me.

I'm hoping we get some good feedback from you well-travelled people about Saga, since we've already gone ahead and booked!

just returned back off emerald princess and if any one is going on her you won't be disappointed. Had the most amazing time, the ship is a little dated but in terms of her standard and cleanliness i couldn't fault it. Got to sample the spa and had treatments and they was very good value for money.
Had the opportunity to dine in share which is curtis stones new resturant on board which was fantastic but my favourite was crown grill. For the small cover charge it was really worth it, some of the best food and service i have had on a ship.
The show was very good i normally get board of seeing the same thing on board but couldn't falut it, had a balcony cabin and the size of balcony was good and cabin facilities was good as well.

Overall i would certainly travel again with princess cruises

Glad to hear you had a lovely time, I agree completely regarding Crown grill it is definately one of the best meals I have had and as you say for the cover charge it was well worth it.
As you say some of the shows can be a bit boring and same as others you have seen before but I saw a couple onboard that were a little different.

    For inside/outside cabin it states:
110V AC electrical outlet with U.S. plug fittings For balcony and above:
110V, 60-cycle alternating current (AC) with standard U.S. plug fittings From memory, one in the bathroom and two in the cabin. I'm sure there is also a european socket somewhere else in the cabin (by the door, or behind the bed).

I'm pretty sure it's American adapters on Emerald, although I can also remember that at least one of our Princess cabins also had a European socket near the cabin door and/or behind the bed. We always take both just in case.
